Kitten advice needed soon?

My sister has a stray cat she began to feed and it started staying around. Its had kittens and there all ok as far as I can tell, except one still has it umbilical(SP) cord attached about 3-4 inches long and its been over night. Will it be ok to carefuly cut the remainder of the cord up near the kittens belly or should I leave it alone? I dont want to get it to bleeding because it looks like live tissue?? Ive never seen one like this although I did see one similar once before.

One more question: This will not cause any pain to the kitten will it?

    Yes, but it makes me "feel" good.

    And of course, these days, "feeling good" about one's deeds is more important than actually doing something to solve the problem.

    Look at it this way. I'm like those gangs of morons who descended on NOLA, to trap and sterilze feral cats, and then released them.

    I sterlize them, but I don't release them. [:D]

    Now NOLA has vermin, lots of vermin, the kind that feral cats could never put a dent in.

    But it made them feel like they did something important.

    In all seriousness. I try to keep my little neighborhood clear of the p1ssing, howling, fighting, monsters. Keeps the neighborhood dogs quieter, keeps my kids' sandbox cleaner (who wants their kids playing in diseased feral cat poo?) and saves a few songbirds I'm sure.

    (If having feral cats around wiped out pigeons, I would have to moderate my position a bit, but they are apparently too lazy to devour pigeons, so I have to do some of that too, but that's another story)

    I'm sorry if that ruffles some folks, but I've always (and continue to) take extrememly good care of my pets, and rain quick and merciful death on the pathetic cast-offs of the ignorant so-called adults among us.

    Wait, check that, I'm not sorry at all.

    It's not like these things are natively occurring creatures in these parts. They're a problem because people made them a problem... and people will have to fix the problem. They are not part of the natural food chain so nature won't solve it. These things are the wild offspring of some cat that was so disgusting that its owner got fed up with its pee-ing on the carpet and tossed it out the window of his pickup truck as he was driving down the interstate. Of course, they meet up with another equally as disgusting puttytat and they create "trash-digging, car-p1ssing, stinking, nasty, Parvo-carrying VERMIN," often finding homes near4 the dumpsters behind supermarkets.

    They spread diseases to other creatures; they are partially responsible for the near eradication of some species of birds. I'm glad AZEX has 549 more rounds and a burlap bag!
