Who has a good meat grinder?
I need a tip on getting a good meat grinder.
I have a little electric meat grinder made by Braun. Cost about $80. It has a plastic housing and a plastic hopper. It has a 150 watt motor.
Really, it does a good job, but it is S-L-O-W. You can't just drop meat into the tube, you have to cram it in with that little plastic pusher thing.
Grinding sausage twice takes forever.
It claims "2.2 pounds per minute." That would be 10 pounds of sausage in 4 minutes. In reality, it grinds 10 pounds of sausage in 10 or 15 minutes.
If you have a grinder that is a lot better than this one, please tell me what brand, cost, and where you got it, and how long it takes to grind ten pounds of sausage.

It is a Kitchen Aid Mixer attachment, and the few times I have had to use it, I didn't have more than a few pounds of meat to grind. Went through pretty fast. The Mixer has a 400 watt motor, so that is over One-Half Horsepower, the way they measure them. 746 watts equals one electrical horsepower. 0 -
The one I use has a 5 horse electric motor, the motor weighs about a hundred pounds. The grinder throat is 5 or 6 inches. The setup is very old.
It can do a whole deer in a few minutes, a whole cow in a few more minutes. As fast as you can dump the meat from a tub into the throat is how fast it grinds it up. The grinder and motor came out of an old butcher shop.0 -

That has to be one of the old Hobart grinders. I have seen them, and they are very rugged and durable. It will most likely outlast your grand kids.
For a good personal semi-professional grinder, the Cabela's 1HP job is great. I have a small Northern Tool model also(other than my home made one), and it has served well...i believe it is about 1400 watts or 1/2 HP.0 -

+1 on the Cabelas grinders, or the LEM version that Bass Pro sells. They are basically the same thing. All Stainless steel and they have plenty of power. They are not cheap though. Unless you plan on grinding quite a few deer, the return on the investment just isn't there. 0 -

Find an old Hobart. Mine weighs about 70 pounds and will grind anything you put in it as fast as you can fill it. 0 -
I think I still have an OLD one stashed away. The kind you mount to the side of a table, cut the meat into small cubes, and feed into it while turning the handcrank.[:D] 0 -

I love the photo of that little blond kid shoving that meat into the grinder. That would be a good activity for the whole family to engage in.
I did look up that grinder at the Cabela's site, lots of people buy that particular model, and most of them couldn't be happier.
I might settle for being a big black bear, and get the 3/4 horsepower model.

i second the old hobart theroy .i have a very old one ,takes 2 guys to move it but it is a grizzly .
