? about gun oil on wood stocks

Is is bad to get the oil on a wood stock? I have a pack of RemOil wipes I use to wipe down my rifle after I've gone hunting. For in-between major cleanings, it works well to clean off my rifle.

Is it OK to wipe down the stock with it, too, or am I doing damage to the wood? The stock is sealed or laminated (sorry, don't remember the correct term), but it has a nice shiny, complete finish on it, so I'm assuming it's more or less protected.

    I make it a rule to never put oil on the wood. I have some stock wax for that I got from brownells. Ig the oil gets into the wood it will weaken it over time.

    Well, the instructions said it was safe for wood, but I never trust manufacturers blindly....

    Some oils are good for wood. Linseed for instance. Rem Oil, I wouldn't and if I did, I'd wipe it off.

    RemOil is meant for steel not wood, and it will cause problems over time if allowed to penetrate....

    Linseed and Neatsfoot (and of course lemon) are the only oils I would put on wood, and usually not those. Hard wax is the ticket.

    soak the cracks where gun oil can get, with linseed. Wipe off all the wood and metal and wait a week before you use gun oil.
