mountain climbers are idiots, lets see it snows there pretty much yr round so lets go in the WINTER when the storms are the biggest and strongest IDIOTS. sorry i wont feel sorry for them 0 -

Gotta agree, I have done Mt Shasta 2 times and if the weather turns get your butt off the mountain! 11+ hours up 2.5 to come down if I recall.0 -

I've climbed Mt Hood several times in various seasons and conditions from so much snow you had no idea how deep it was, to no snow for the first mile or so, then rock on the summit, where I pitched a tent and stayed overnight. What confuses me about this is that from the summit at 11,245' down to about 9500' one must walk, but once past the "hogsback", if it's snowy, it's fairly steep and straight and you can laydown on the snow and if your clothing is anything near slippery you can slide clear down to about a mile from Timberline lodge. It's not like it's a secret- it's the preferred method of coming down of the hill. A climber can leave Timberline about 3AM. the snow is crusted hard so the climber can walk right on top, clear up to when you circle around the hogsback, then across a cravase that may or may not have a snow bridge, then a thousand feet straight to the sumnmit. I guess those that die on it must be from out of town, or are trying one of the more difficult routes.[:(] 0 -

I think they should leave a few of them up there. Might stop the amateurs from going. I read somewhere that the cost of rescue is sometimes charged to the fools. 0 -
What kind of anal orifice takes a Labrador Retriever mountain climbing? Any dog deserves better than that, especially a Lab. If these a**holes survive, they should be shot, or at least horsewhipped. 0 -

Lots of dogs climb Mt Hood every year.0 -
The record for the most ascents of Mt. Hood is actually held by a dog and his record of 400 and some climbs has stood since the 1940s.
A local man involved in the rescue said today that the dog probably kept 2 of the climbers alive overnight.
His comment on the radio was something like:
"It was really a 3 dog night, but they managed to survive with just the 1".

If the Wright brothers had not been willing to take risks, the airplane would have not been invented.

why cant they simply buy a 600.00 dollar locator becon so the risk takers can be saved when the plan goes haywire,and absorb the cost after the tax payers have to come get them, what ever happened to sliding down a hill on a inner tube?[}:)] 0 -

...Adventurers and risk takers, yes. Explorers and discoverers, no. Thousands have been up there before. Like rafters on the Colorado, they are there strictly for their own adventure, whereas the Wrights and Columbus were on a quest of discovery, doing something for the first time, breaking new ground, etc.
...Locator beacons should be required equipment and leave all your credit cards at the bottom to help fund your rescue, if needed.0 -
Everyone is calling these guys idiots. But one thing you may consider is that, they know this was a possibility, and they were ready to weather a few days of storm if they got into it heavy. Now one thier wives saw other climbers stranded on the mountain, and without a rescue request from the climbers the wives are begging for their husbands to be saved. 0 -
I just found out my grandma climbed Mount Hood before. From what I hear it's not that hard of a climb unless you go the difficult route. 0 -

Cause they rent them to you for 20 bucks a day. [;)], and if you dont have one, they will not come and get you, anymore.0
