? How do you clean the boresnakes?
This is the reason I haven't bought one yet, despite the rave reviews.
I still use the "old fashion' coated cleaning rod and Hoppes Benchrest with Tetra on the rails.

I would risk getting killed.
I guess I could clean it in a 5 gallon bucket with detergent as an alternative.
Thanks!0 -
Wouldn't it be easier to clean it in a 5 gallon bucket of water, mixed with detergent.???

...That (cleaning the bore snake) has kept me from using them. A snake for each cal would be needed,...one for the bore cleaner and one for oil?
...I think Ill just run patches thru and chunk 'em as always have...[;)]

Sometimes bore snakes will work for multiple calibers, depending on how close to the same size the calibers are.
You can use the same bore snake for oil and solvent, and if you know how, you can do it all at the same time. Put the solvent right behind the brushes, and put the oil towards the end.0 -
Actually a bowl of hot water and dawn dish soap works great. Then just hang it out to dry.
I really like carrying a boresnake while I am hunting to run through the bore if I happen to get dirt or snow in the muzzle.
I also run it through every night after being out in the woods or desert to remove any dust or contaminants and it also lightly coats the bore with the oil of my choice so I am ready for the morning.0 -
Boy I d buy one for every gun i had if i already didnt have one. the 22 one is slick cleans two thirds of my guns. Its like a gun tampon only simpler and reuseable. Mine has always done a nice job on the .22 and .223 0 -
To keep it from getting tangled in the washer I just bind it together with a couple of rubberbands. Still comes out clean as when it was new. 0 -
if you run a dirty bore snake through a clean gun it will clean the bore snake as well[:D] 0 -

You can also purchase a "delicates bag" from walmart. There used for washing panty hose and G-Strings, also works well with a bore snake.0 -
whack off the head and peel it like a sock, then wrap it around a stick and roast like a hot dog. 0 -
I turn an old sock inside out and put the boresnakes in it. Tie them in run them through. Clean and no problems. I don't run them with good or delicate clothes as I do not like to sleep on the couch. 0 -
Don't they just shed their skin like other snakes? 0 -
