I know it is illegle to file/grind/deface serial numbers on a firearm but what about removing any other marks like manufacturer or import marks> or the caution statements on Rugers?

  I think that is OK.
  
  I know on Rugerforum there are several that like to remove the Ruger "book" from the pisols.

  yep, just serial is all that needs to stay.
