The Duke would have been 100 on the 26th
I was at Scheels Alsport here in Iowa City on Friday, and I saw some signs and stuff that pointed out that the Duke would have been 100 years old on the 26th of May this year.
I'm kind of thinking that I should have bought something to commemorate the moment. Did anyone else get something to remember John Wayne? I just learned that he was an Iowa man, too. Maybe I'll pick up an old cowboy video and watch it for fun!
Maaybe I should have picked up an old Winchester Model 94 to remember the moment. I did take a close LOOK at at $40,000 Browning O/U shotgun in the Premium Gun Galery ... but something about it just did not say, "The Duke!" [:p]
I could have picked up three Winchester Model 9422 Tribute commemoratives ... that would have been nice! For the $40,000 that I saved I could have purchased almost forty of the Winchester Model 9422 Tribute carbines. But they did have the big loop ... guess I'm OK with a couple decks of cards. And they may be on sale soon.
Has the Duke's birthday been mentioned on gunbroker.com? I've been traveling and out of touch for a week.

Whatcha doin in IA,I sold a few guns to the folks down there in I.C.
2 M-42 plain barrels and an 86 CC receiver,45-90.Got 2300 for the 42's and 4600 for the 86.Not bad considering it was 1996.I wish I had the 86 right now.Could darn near put a 1 in front of what I got for it.Talked em' out of 1850 for a M-12 16 ga.,Superfield shortly after that along with 1100 for a very late,1897,16 ga,30" (Heaviest 97 I ever picked up). They were never shy about paying good money for really good stuff.I miss makin money off guns.RIP there JW

I just watched "Jet Pilot" last night and I say "The Cowboys" last weekend. Of course my favorite is "Chisum", that is not only my mother's maiden name, but also John Chisum was my grandfathers Great Uncle[:p] 0 -
John Wayne was born in Winterset, Iowa. This weekend Winterset is packed full of John Wayne fans from around the world. My wife and I toured the house he was born in. It's more of a 3 room little shack. Plans are to build a new museum next door. Guess's alot going on there this weekend. Winterset is also the county seat of Madison County, where they filmed the movie the Bridges of Madison County. 0
