My reply to the LEO/Military ? thread:
Just wanted to make sure everyone had a chance to read this as it's kinda buried in the original thread it came from:

The military, in my opinion, is there to serve the PEOPLE of this country, NOT it's government. As soon as we're ordered to turn on the PEOPLE we've sworn to protect against all enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC then we stop serving the PEOPLE. If I'm ever ordered to aim my weapon at an American citizen, or kick down an American citizen's door to take something the the constitution says they can have regardless of whatever laws are written, I will tell whoever's in charge of me, "No." A flat-out, non-blinking, non-flinching "no," and I will not feel one shred of guilt.
It classifies as an illegal order, because an Amendment to the Constitution outweighs any laws passed by government. The only way to counter-act an Amendment is to pass another Amendment that says a certain Amendment is now null-and-void, and that takes approval of 2/3s of the States in the Union.
I swore to protect my fellow citizens and defend the Constitution. If they just pass a law that says guns are illegal, the 2nd Amendment will still outweigh it, and any order given to me to remove something from a private citizen that is promised to them by the 2nd Amendment will be an order that I #1: don't have to follow, and #2: really SHOULDN'T follow.
If it comes down to taking off my uniform and walking out, then so be it. I'd rather be labeled as a deserter than as an oppressor, because then it says that I actually stood up for what I believe in.
