These pistols are California legal so I have one and I think it is a nice little gun for the money. I paid $150 for mine several years a ago.

I`d ask him what HE means by serviceable.I`ve got one and like it.If I had an oportunity to pick one up for $100 I`d do it.

    subnoize,

I have a pa-63. I love it. Never had a feeding problem, recoil akin to a ppk. Serviceable i think means, needs work to it. Parts i think are available on makarov.com
ammo wise, i recommend 2 manufacturers...winchester ($19.99 per box of 50 solid round, fmj, nice power, 95gr) and sellier&bellot ( 95gr, a little lower on the charge so recoil is slightly easier i think anyway, 50 rd box ariund $12-15) stay away from silver bear, they don't like these rounds at all, and don't go over 95gr. to high of a charge for the frame.

i wouldn't sell mine for anything.

Nope - only seven - nice round - I have one and five or six 'real' Maks.

Try a (if you can) East German or a Bulgarian Mak - PA63 isn't really a Mak
    - just shoots the 'Mak round.' I think you'd like it better - very rugged and
    dependable - feels better, too.[8D]

yea zip from what ive read extended shooting tends to hurt your thumb because of an oversized something. and yea i know its not a mak, just shoots the mak round, but its only 100 bucks. not the 260-280 something a real mak would run me. ive been looking lately from something thats not a 22, but would just be fun to shoot.

I've shot quite a few through both - '63 and Mak - but never have that that problem.

I know guns are personal preference things - there's nothing wrong with the '63 - I
bought one first, myself, and it was one of my favorite hide out guns. Tried a Mak
one day ... 'and never went back.'

I don't like ultra light handguns - shot lots of (other people's) Glocks - really tried to
like them - own one - just never could. The ultra light revolvers are even worse to me.
I'd carry one on a backpack trek - but those days in the mountains and deserts are over
for me - anyway, I prefer a heaver handguns.

... it's all personal preference, but THAT'S the name of the game in life!

Incidently, that 9x18mm round is a winner!

I have an older police CZ auto [a great weapon] that shoots 7.62X25 Takarev FMJ, defensively this pistol is so heavy you have you have an option of just hitting an attacker over the head.

i almost bought a CZ52 at my favorite gun shop, until the owner told me the only accidental discharge he ever had was with the gun i had in my hand[}:)] said he let the slide go forward and BAM!

I live out here in CA too, and I have been trying to find a real Mak at a gun shop, but can't find one. I guess the Bulgarian ones are still leagal but I still haven't seen one. I don't want to buy one on line and pay $45 for a transfer on a $185 gun. Maybe I'll try the gunshow at Del Mar next month. [8)]

$185 Mak - in CA? I doubt it.

We go to the Del Mar shows every time there's one there.SoCal has had them in occasionally.
I've had to find/pay the shipping out of state for 2 Bulgies - one the MilTex and other MilSpec - two Russians- one of them is a sneak) and a ChiCom MilSpec, and of course, the best finished, an E. German - maybe two - I think my son has my first,

    Love them all.

another "not a real mac" is the polish p-64. picked one up couple years ago for $170 with a spare mag.
i admit i wanted it just so i wouldnt ruin a "good" gun on the job with all the moisture and chemicals, but i really like the thing!
only thing i dont like is it had the cheap blueing so it is rust removal on the slide each day just from moisture comeing through my shirt!!
Was thinking if i re-blue the slide i just might do it with nitre blue, that bright electric blue should look nice against the dark frame...

    subnoize,

like i said earlier, i have had no problems with my pa-63. there aren't a lot of accessories for it, which i'm kinda glad about. i'm not spending extra money on laser sights and blah blah blah like i would with many other pistols. it's nice, simple, shoots well, feeds great, easy to clean and fun to shoot.

my buddy, the one that just got hired on as a dunbar security guard, took it to the range yesterday. he met up with 3 of the trainers and a couple of the other guys he's gonna be working with. they brought their m&p, glocks, 1911, and he had my pa-63. they shot for about 4 hours, alot of rounds, trying to find a gun that would suit him for work. then one of the trainers asked to shoot the 63...he shot 1 round, looked at my buddy with a look of surprise and a big ole grin...then emptied the mag. john, my buddy, said that all he could talk about after that was shooting the 63. john said, and i quote, "he was acting like a virgin that just got his first hand job from a girl." i nearly shot my mt. dew through my nose i was laughin so hard.

    i say pick it up.
