The Rogue Situation. They got me!
Ok, if y'all remember the post about my Grandmother passing away, I told you that a lot was going on and it has been a rough few weeks for the Rogue family. I told you I would explain and here it is:
If you don't know by now, I am in the Army and have been for the last 18 and a half years. I was planning on retiring at 20 years and being a school teacher. Well, I've been stateside for almost 4 years now and was getting ready to submit my retirement paperwork.
As many know, Mrs Rogue is in the National Guard and has been activated and deployed overseas for the last 9 months and is due home in October.
This is where the conundrum starts. I just came down on orders to be a part of the Mobile Transition Teams that train the Iraqi/Afghan armies. I am to report to Fort Riley, KS in August and on to the sandbox by November. This means that I will have to spend TWO years away from the wife due to our deployments.
Is it wrong? No it isn't. Plenty of families have been through worse. Timing sucks pretty bad though. I could get it deleted I think, but I'm going to go through with it.
Anyways, our solution is that she extends for another year over there. She is in relative safety in Kuwait and we MIGHT get to see each other a few times over the course of the next year. Not to mention the kick ass pay that we will be getting. We will be able to purchase a house for cash with all the money we save when we return.
It still sucks, but a few questions have been answered so far and it looks like we will make a positive out of a negative. My tour is only for 12 months because of the assignment to a team. She will be back stateside a month or three before me (depending on when I have boots on the ground over there.)
So, that's it in a nutshell. There's a few other things going on too but that is the biggest obstacle now. Y'all keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
Oh, and for the people that is going to say something about my "cush four year assignment stateside," I have done my time on deployments before and have spend a good number of years jumping out of airplanes (two jumps in Iraq as a matter of fact.) I HAVE done my part.

Rogue...Thank you... people who make sacrifices like the one you and the Mrs. are doing are truely heros in the purest sense of the word. Knowing that you could get out of it but still willing to do it... man my hat is off to you. You are one hell of a man and she one hell of a woman to be willing to serve in such a manner. 0 -

Although I'm sure you know plenty of people up there in the APG area, if you need any help with anything as it pops up let me know.
Maybe you should post/email some of us the Ms. Rogue addy again, and of course yours once you get there.
Hopefully I can catch up to you for some shotguning before you leave.

RR...that is tough! Being seperated that long can be very hard on a relationship...as I'm sure you know, with as long as you've been in the service. I pray that God keeps your relationship strong and solid and that He provides you guys with as many chances to see eachother as possible...and that He protects you both as you serve. I pray these things in Jesus's mighty and powerful name. Amen!
