Latest Army Pitch: 'P$$t'
By Associated Press
WASHINGTON - Need a down payment for your home or seed money to start a business? The Army will help - if you join up.
Despite spending nearly $1 billion last year on recruiting bonuses and ads, Army leaders say an even bolder approach is needed.
So a proposal would let new recruits pick from a "buffet" of incentives, including up to $45,000, accruable tax free, for a home or business.
Plus, the Army is loosening restrictions on age and weight limits, education, and drug and criminal records. The number of young people planning to enlist is at a record low 16 percent, according to a Pentagon survey.

That's annoying considering I tried to join up when I was younger but was denied since I had my GED. That was MR Clintons Army though. 0 -
Bummer! I read an article that the Army missed their recruiting target 2 months (possibly more by now) in a row - not sure about the retention. Hopefully, this works for them. 0 -
i see also they have a new shorter 2 year commitment. 0 -
They didn't want me when I applied five years ago. Anyone know the new physical limitations? 0 -
Yeah I heard the ARMY uped the age to 42 yrs old. 0 -
there are no physical limitations anymore, lol. 0 -
It seems to me that they will have a harder time with these recruits since people joining out of extreme self-interest will be less likely to sacrifice it all in the line of duty... they will want to live long enough to get paid, after all.
I'm also wondering how we're going to pay for all this - the dollar is already on shaky ground and the costs involved in this war seem to be ballooning out of control...0 -
Yoohoo! I almost qualify again. I'm big, fat, bald, and pretty gimpy, and older than rope. I'll get to go back to Iraq before you know it. [:D][:D][:D] 0
