Ahem!! You've asked the right person if you were talking to me. [:D][:D]
Plenty of things to do if you like to shoot and eat. [:)][:)] The weather is perfect right now and getting better. Only in the upper 90s. The only bad thing is the traffic. The Snowbirds are coming in for the winter and the roads will be busy until April, but, with patience and time, you can get around.
There is a nice shooting range out west of town....Adair Park. Free to the public. Pistol, Rifle, Blackpowder, Silhouette, PPC, Plinking, Archery and Cowboy SASS on the fourth sunday each month. Nothing fancy, no grass. Just concrete, burms, buildings, benches, targets, parking areas, shade, etc. Desert all around. No residence within miles....yet.
All the information you need is at Sprague's Sports. He's located at the end of 4th avenue in Yuma. Richard also has a nice indoor shooting range there with guns to rent.

Be sure to visit the Yuma Territorial Prison while you are there. Pretty interesting. Don't go at 3:10pm, though. Everyone will be down at the train station waiting for the train from Bizbee. The one with Ben Wade on it. [:)][:)] http://www.pr.state.az.us/Parks/parkhtml/yuma.html

Also, quail season will be starting October 16th, or maybe the 19th. You can get a three day non-resident hunting license for $60...Lots of quail in the desert due to the rains they had..........Gambel quail.

Lots of places to eat in Yuma too. Not just mexican food. How many ways can you eat cat rolled up in a taco? [xx(][xx(]

Useing a 4 wheel drive or high ridding vehicle. Travel north on 95 to a place called french some thing( to long ago) Old resturant and gas station in one there,( do not stop there if there is a trailer there, not open anyway. Turn east go about 17 miles to a barrel in the road. Turn left go till the road splits stay left. If you go right you come to the Baker then the Rob Roy and on around the mountian finally the King of Arizona (KOFA)All private. So stay left back where the road splits. You'll come to a old fence with lots of signs on it. says Keep out.
go on through and stay on most used road sorta leftish. as you come over a rise you'll see a house forward left. Stop there. Tell em you came to see Al the old man on the mountain. Al is dead but at least they will know you ain't a snow bird. Al was my father.
He lived their for 17 years I lived there for 2 years. ( yes all year round ) This is the Northstar gold mine. from here you can see the KOFA mine and the Baker mine, ( meat Mr. Baker, had dinner with him, nice guy. Ask if Sandra is still Over at the old Roy mine.
If you got time go see her.She keeps 2 rattlers as pets on the loose.
Really a strange bird, but good people. Take a camera! looking east5 from the northstar there is the Lady butte. Off to the right there is rock that looks like a 2 story frog. Stay out of the mine, or go no futher the the old motercycle just inside.( blew the engine so I parked it there till I could come back for it) Now I know what bat guno will do to anything.
Let me know how it works out.

That place on 95 where you turn off of is Stone Cabin. It's long been closed. Named for an old cabin built in the back of rocks by some unknown prospector long ago. Anyway, I grew up hunting in the KOFA Wildlife refuge. Great place. No motorized vehicles off the main road. Just hunting by foot or horseback. Huge mule deer. [^][:)] When I was a kid, it was a paradice before people found out about it. [:)][:)]

Have a good time and enjoy the area. [:)][:)] This is the time of year to do it. Like Da-Tank said, Quartzite is a neat place if you like Flea Markets. It's one huge one. 80 miles north on 95 at the junction of I-10. Everything you could want you'll find there, including people from every state in the union. [:)][:)]
