Mailbox snooper
Anyone ever have a neighbor snoop through your mail? My neighbor has been doing it for several years now. He has been suing us and our homeowners assn. for 6 years now and thinks he is sooooo smart. We suspected we had a problem but didn't know to what extent or who was doing it. A video camera was set up at the mailbox kiosk which is away from our houses and can't be seen by any of us. Well, lo and behold, we got lots of footage day after day of him opening our boxes and reaching in shuffling thru and reading the envelopes. He took mail out for closer inspection but never walked away with any, but we suspect he has.
This guy is a low-life puke and we are filing for a restraining order and suing him for trespass next week. The videos might even end up on You-tube.
Any advice or offers to help out with this guy?

Federal Offense. Contact the post office, tell them you have video footage and ask about speaking to a postal inspector. 0 -
Is that better than a grenade? 0 -
Make a phone call to the Post Office . Simple inquiry might be enough for an answer to your question. 0 -
Lawyers say it isn't big enuf offense for them to prosecute. The feds will only go after him if a lot of money is involved. Our tax dollars NOT at work! 0 -

X2..he'll be in deep schnit.0 -
Call the Postal Inspectors 0 -
Postal Inspectors are not FBI, CIA or any other acronym most folks are familiar with. They are a separate entitiy and constitue federal law enforcement for the postal service. They live for this kind of stuff, no matter the $$ amount. 0 -

But wait until after the mail is delivered. You don't want to disgruntle-ize your mailman.0 -
Rattler wouldn't work. This guy is a snake himself. He would probably start up a conversation with it. 0 -
+1 on call the Post Office. It is a federal thing. 0 -
Its a Class I Felony to mess with US Mail, I would contact your Postmaster and insist they take action. If you have him on tape he's fried. I helped the Sheriff's Office work a large string of mail box vandalism a few yrs back. It was kids trying to act like an a## and have fun, but they had no idea what they were doing was a Felony. 0 -
I don't have that problem, all of our mail boxes are locked. 0 -

Greetings Friend,
In the Navy we had a thing called a "blanket party".
You will need a few strong fellows, a blanket or a sheet. A dark night and an opportunity to catch him in an alley, lonely spot etc ..... sheet over his head from behind and he can make no identifications.
Tell him its the price for playing mail man.
I think you could cure him with one treatment.

I would have a problem with the last "S". I would be doing the whole community a favor and would love to take credit for it. Good advice, but no-can-do. 0 -
I bought one of those security boxes from Lowes. Mail drops in but I use a key to get it out. Mail kept disapearing because someone was forcing their hand past the "mail shoot". I super glued the tips of a few razor blades so if the perp. stuck his hand down there, at least he would bleed when he pulled his hand out. Two days later there was blood on the inside of the door. I watched everyone in the neighborhood to see who was wearing a bandage on their wrist but saw no one. Still dont know who was stealing my mail but I never lost anything since. I wanted to do the rat trap thing but figured the mail would just drop on it. Guess I'm just a cruel SOB. 0 -
forkliftking....bravo...direct action ...no PC somebody else fix it for me....wahhhhh...like the blanketpartyballbat idea 0 -
We all have locking mailboxes here. The postal guy and the homeowners have the key. There's a community outgoing mailbox to drop stuff in.
No mail theft now.0 -
We looked into the locking boxes and it would be a good idea, but once we nail this dirtbag, we shouldn't have any more problem. We still might do it anyway. We are a 12 lot Airpark subdivision and it has to be approved by the masses herein. Shouldn't be too expensive. 0 -
Leave a big pile of squishy dog poop in his mailbox. 0 -
Call the Postal Inspectors. If they go slow than everybody involved call your congressman. This is a election year and the narrow window of them willing to help is open. 0 -
Just catch him with your mail in his hand. Beat the crap out of him . Then when he says he is calling the cops.. say go ahead... your fingerprints are on my mail. Any questions? 0 -
It would take forever to beat the crap outa him. He is way too full of it. The videos are great quality and show without a doubt who is doing what to whom. Even if we can't convict him, it will become public knowledge and in this small town I hope he will be humiliated beyond my expectations. However, he is so full of himself, he will try to justify his actions. He will wind up beating the crap out of himself. 0 -
Just post a sign on your mail box, smile you're on candid camera. [:D] 0 -
I was going to post one inside the box on the day he is served papers. Might even put a camera with a big flash bulb on it in there too. 0 -
Print out a picture of him in the mail, and give him a pic in his mail box 0 -
Put a webcam in the mailbox, with a little cord and antenna..
He'll get the picture.0 -
Find a friend that works at a bank.
Get one of those exploding "dye packs" they use on bank robbers.
Plant the pack in your mailbox ... when he opens your box and looks at your mail ***BLAM*** he gets covered in dye. Then call the cops and have him arrested, he'll be caught "red handed!".0
