"sir you were doing 72 in a 65 mph zone"
He notices you have an out of state tag on your vehicle and says
"sir do you have any weapons in your vehicle?"
Would you lie if you were carrying a pistol under the seat?
And what would give him the right to search your vehicle?

Since it's illegal in Wisconsin to have a loaded, uncased weapon in a motor vehicle, I just use my KaBar with an 8" Tanto blade. 0 -

I have been pulled over and asked for my information which I kept in the middle console which kind of dumb of me at the time was also where I kept my pitol in the car. He asked for it and I said"Now before I go reaching in here for this paperwork I just want to let you know I do have a pistol in here" he said "Ok no problem". Which I thought was irresponsible on his part to be so relaxed about it,he didnt even free up his gun hand or change his position,because just because I told him it was there did not mean I was supposed to have it or was licensed to carry it. I always tell them the truth though. I definately dont want them finding out by mistake especially after I lied and told them I didnt have any weapons. 0 -

72 in a 65 is not sufficient reason for a LEO to stop and annoy an otherwise law-abiding citizen, IMNSHO. 82 should do it, but not 72.

About the double-edged boot knife in git-r-done's door pocket. PLEASE take it out if you plan on visiting with the police in Texas. That is a "dagger" and prohibited from carry on your person or in a vehicle.

He wouldn't have to ask because, as per Colorado law, I keep my pistol in plain sight on the passenger seat.
I often wonder, though, if I'd be ordered out of the car and the weapon secured "for the officer's safety and mine".
So I keep to the speed limit.0 -

That knife has gone everywhere with me since December 1990 (includeing Texas and many other states that it is illegal in).
I bought it just before shipping over to the Persian Gulf for Desert Storm and it has become kind of a "good luck charm" for me.
When I had it in my 18 wheelers I did get hastled a little a few times by DOT officers untill I told them about when and why I bought it and that it has just become a thing that I carry around from that time of my life.
Every officer that I have told this too has understood and overlooked it. (Like I said "good luck charm"[:D])0 -
O.K. , well first of all : 72 in a 65 zone WILL get you stopped in plenty of places (I will not , But?)Second : Some of you guys are really parinoid or just strange or really need to move of you think you must keep that much stuff (bats,hatchets,knives ect.)in you vehicle ???Why not just get a 'carry permit' ??? and Third : I dont really care if I get 'stopped' and Yes I am always "carrying" !
example : Last week while going to 'town' with a good buddy (he was driving his truck) of mine we went thru the little town (Niota) that I live outside of (&have a shop here & used to work there as a LEO),the local LEO stopped us for 41 in a 30 (oops),walked up to the truck , looked in and said "You where driving 41 in a 30" & "Hey how you doing?" Then, "You guys be carefull , have a nice day" , then walked back to his squad and left....and Yes I was 'packing' my "off duty" gun (Glock 27 40 cal.)...Never had to tell him (He knew as soon as he saw me)...And No , I would Not Lie to a LEO !!!!!!!!!

Yup, you just dont hear of people getting ticketed for such a small violation. WV Troopers say "9 is fine, but 10 your mine". That means they get ya after 80mph.0 -
Many people live in states where there are no rights and nobody is allowed to get a carry permit! That's why. But they are still allowed to transport a firearm. The laws from state to state are pure BS. People just need to do what they need to do and keep their mouth shut.
And hell no, I would not volunteer any information to some unknown, jackass, 'anti' that might get anything confiscated.0 -

I do sometimes visit comrades at the Veteran's Hospital in Danville.
I have never had the misfortune of meeting LEO outside of my home state. I got pulled over on leave in a car with IL plates around Indy once. Wasn't carrying at that time.
It's generally not good to lie to LE but might sometimes be necessary.
I got in line to go up the Sears tower in Chicago. They had metal detectors - I had to turn back. "I'm not about to pay $12 to ride in an elevator." was what I said.0 -

I was stopped for speeding a couple of years ago in Tn. Before an officer ever pulls you over they have already requested information on the tag # on your vehicle. If it is registered to a person with a CCP that information is sent to the officer and he knows this prior to stopping you. The first thing he asked when he approached my car was if I had my handgun with me. I answered yes and told him it was secured in the console. He said that was fine and I later asked him how he knew I was carrying and he told me the afore mentioned information. Not sure if this applies to every state, but it certainly does in TN 0 -

It applies in Ohio also. Any CCW is registered to your plate. i learned that in my firearms class.0 -

I've been told that here in Maryland, whenever they run your tag during a traffic stop, a little symbol pops up on the screen showing that the registered owner of the car owns a handgun. I can't confrirm this because I've not been stopped since I heard about it. 0 -

Me too.
I keep an unloaded AR-7 and a big, junky Aitor "survival" knife, as well as a hatchet, small shovel, and some water in my trunk - wherever I go. If I'm in OryGun or a reciprocal state, I also have my hanguns.
If going to California, I add a short 12 Ga. and a Mini-14 - and I drive VERY carefully.
