Early in the AM will mark another milestone
About 2AM in the morning will mark 4 years since I was hit by a drunk driver while walking to a friends house.
I had been at the bar drinking like everyone else and knew I had too much to drink to drive so I was walking to a friends who lived not far from the bar.
A 19yo girl came along at aprox. 65mph and hit me.
I have no memory of it (from before till about a week later in the hospital). But I do have about 5lbs. of metal holding me together from it and plenty of scares.
Since then I do not go out for New Years!

The wife and I typically stay home on New Years' also. Too many amateur drunks on the roads. We just got back from Daytona Beach and partied every night anyway. Time to sober up a little. 0 -
GRD we have an extra bed you can safely crash in for the night.(no pun intended)
However, I seriously doubt I will be up at midnight. OMG I'm getting old.0 -
Glad you are still with us GRD, it's a good example for the kids to stay in and spend time with family. 0 -
We have not gone out for the last few years. We usually go to a friends house just a little ways from the house and have a good time with them. It is much safer than getting into all the traffic and associated dangers.

I firmly believe that if I had not been drunk myself that it would have killed me!
The ironic part was that I probly could have drove to my friends without an incedent but my CDL is too important to me to risk it so I desided to do the right thing and walk and I got hit by someone doing what I desided not too.
I got a DUI in 91 when I first came back from the gulf and swore I would never get another!0 -
My uncle got t-boned by a drunk 35 years ago, just last year he had hip replacement surgery. 35 years of pain is now over. 0 -

I can relate. My right hip (it was shattered) is all pinned and screwed together along with plates and screws across my pelvic bone (was broke in 3 places) from that accident.
My right elbow and my left ankle is also repaired with a bunch of metal.0 -

Eight long years.
Eight, long, dry, humorless sober years; each more boring than the last, blending seamlessly into a biege background of sobriety.
Some days, I'd step over my mother for a stiff belt of Chivas.
However, I do have my daughter. Raising a toddler is a bit like being drunk. At eighty miles per hour. On black ice.
So, it's not like I don't have any adventures.

I refuse to leave the safety of my home, for 24hrs. before, to 24 hrs after NYE!
It has served me well in the past, and i suppose will in the future.
GRD, It's good that you "pulled-thru" from that horrible accident. Hard to say if you were lucky, or UNlucky.I trust it has left an indellable mark on you, and will serve to keep U safe on all the NYE's to come.0 -

I have only flown one time since then. I carried medical records with me to avoid the hastle.
I do set some detectors off depending on how sensitive it is set.0 -
All you guys staying home make me wonder if my wife and I made a mistake. We accepted an invitation to go into town 12 miles away for a modest party. We won't do much drinking there, but who else will be on the road when we come home?
Maybe we'll return before midnight, since the big exodus from the bars won't start till later.0 -
We got home about 0200. Traveled for 30 miles on freeway and county roads. Saw no cops and no drunks. Guess we were just lucky?
