You should have asked them what they would take as payment in full if you paid it off right then!
I have insurance, but have seen a lot of money saved by folks doing that.
Often it is 25% and sometimes more that they will "forget".
They simply write it off as a loss, so they don't show a profit.
Medical expenses are the biggest joke going,.......overcharges, and writeoffs.
According to the medical industry, none of them ever make a profit.
A large part is true I guess because they are covering all of the folks and illegals that never pay.
System is broken, and needs help!

That's not bad at all. When I broke my thumb, my total bill was over a grand -- that included a visit to ER where they put a crappy splint on and gave me some pain killers and 3 or 4 visits to a doctor and a couple of unnecessary x-rays. I dunno, even if my work didn't cover my health, I wouldn't risk having no insurance. Imagine breaking a leg or getting hit by a car or just simply getting sick.

Mark; The price was the same, if i paid in full, or in installments. The ER visit was $467. Wound sutures and Lidocaine was $404. What gets me is, the stupid stuk-up "Learning" nurse, that just watched the Dr. sew me up, threw-away the first bottle of lido., before the Doc was done with it. I think i got double-billed for the Lidocaine. Not to mention, the Dr. in charge didn't even write me a frikkin "Scrip". I'm tellin U, i almost cut that finger CLEAN-OFF!!

Oh yeah,, i REFUSED to let them X-ray it, but i believe i got charged for that too...[V] I asked them to send me an "itemized" bill, but you prob. know what that was answered with....

Jeff,......regardless of what their answer was, you have no obligation to pay a bill, until you receive an "itemized" version, if you demand it!
I would do that before I make the first payment.

Heck I would have stitched you up for half that! Outrageous isn't it. I hate going to the hospital.

+1...Get an itemized bill and study it carefully.
Docs/hospitals/clinics are notorious for charging for procedures and medications never administered.

Any discrepancy you note, bring it to their attention and demand proof if they insist it is correct.

BTW, try to get some insurance!

That's what i was thinking... I'm gonna take a ride over there tomorro, It's too damn easy for them to "Diss" me over the phone.
I'll go to the "payments" office, see what they say, to my face.
The hospital is only 3 miles away.

You also most likely have not seen the entire bill![:D]
If that was the ER,..........you will likely get one from the attending physician on duty, as they tend to work out of "pools" for companies.
You may still have several bills coming, and they could take 6 months or more to show up. They bill you when they get around to it, or a computer catches it![8D]

    The bill had 2 entries.

    1. ER fee...$404.
    2. treatment of wound/wounds $464.

Wife is on the phone now, requesting an itemized bill be faxed to her office.
Now i hear her out there giving them her CC#[:(!]
I told her not to pay a cent, till we see an itemized bill!![:(!][:(!]

I wonder if the Dr. will send you his bill? My ER visit for the broken ribs totaled $4200. ER room, x ray, x ray techician to read, cat scan, and Dr. bill. My out of pocket was pennies insurance took care of it.

Maybe she made a good deal!
That, or I guess you need a good divorce attorney also![:D]
    That was a joke!
Don't ever think you have seen all the bills, especially if it came from one source.
I hope you are right for your sake!
    It's only money after all.[:0]

Yeah,,,, i guess so.The Dr. who actually did the sewin, wasn't a "fully-fledged" Dr. yet. He was in the middle of doing his "residency".
Great guy, he "went to bat"for me, to try and get me some pain meds. Wich his immediate boss summarily denied me.
I can only hope that she somehow sustains a similar wound, and is denied pain medication.
Witch, of course, i suppose she could merely wright her own..[V]
