A car is parked on the street. The only "residence" on the street is a high-rise apartment building and a pricey hotel. There is very little foot traffic.
So the car alarm goes off.
What does the driver expect people to do?

Nope. Don't even lock the doors. Ain't nuthin' in the truck that cost more than the window they would have to break to get inside.

Look you old fart. It's the window that came with the truck. And it works for free, doesn't eat anything, and requires little of anything save for the occasional cleaning with an ammonia solution. Geez.[:o)]

I'm still wondering how you'd squeeze a widow into the
same tracks in which a window (truck or not!) rides.
Would the widow roll up and down, like a window - or -
would she remain up all the time?

I have one and allways use it. But not because I think anyone would pay attention but it operates my door locks. When I set the alarm it locks the door, and shut the alarm off it unlocks the doors.
I have had this bronco for over a year and don't even know if my key will operate the door locks as I have never tried.0 -

I used to have a stereo that would do that. Ironically, it didn't have an alarm and I had $3800 in equipment stolen out of it.
Got my money back though.0 -
The alarms is for your use only. If you know your car has an alarm and your hear your alarm chime, you have to look out the window, no one else will. An alarm is really good for places where people might steal pieces of the outside of your car. Like your tail lights, the rear window glass, your wheels. Most places in the US are not that bad with crime. If your only use for an alarm is to prevent car theft a steering wheel lock would be cheaper, annoy people less since it won't go off by accident, and could actually be more effecive.
I think funny when installing the alarm the guy asks you, where do you want to but "the button" for the alarm so only you will know where it is. Everyone of course puts it under the dashboard under the steering wheel, so the theif knows it there two. You can quickly disable the siren by clipping the wires to it. You can also quickly disable the no-start function by disconnting the litle plastic control modules under the dashboard.0 -

I wanted to set the sesitivity of it as in damp weather it will chirp a bit. I have followed wires and they just seem to disapear!0 -
Actually, a blinking red light works just as good as an alarm. I hardwire a
red diode light into all of my cars/ Never have had a problem - even when
windows have been left down over night.[:D]0 -

To me a car alarm is very beneficial when you are away from home. What I don't understand is why the majority of the population, it seems, will store $32.56 worth of pure useless garbage in their garage taking up all the space and park $60,000 worth of vehicles outside on the street or in their driveway. 0 -

My car alarm detects current flow from the battery. If the door or trunk is opened it alarms my pager and has a range of two miles. The vehicle itself gives no indication of an alarmed state. I can then silently surprise and take whatever action required.
These units are very easy to install, and they do work great.0 -
...no, it's become so common for them to go off for about ANY reason, no one pays any attention to them anymore. My truck stays parked in one side of the garage all the time it's home anyway.
...My truck has a factory gizmo that unless the key is used (breaking the colum wont get it) no fuel gets to injectors, so no startie, no goie...it gets no gas...[;)]0 -
