    But they may put a hold on your account until the check clears - that means any other checks you write against the account could possibly be returned "NSF".

    Much depends on the bank...AND whoever the cashier may be on that given day. I've banked at one local bank for 30yrs, and never had a problem cashing checks, no matter if out of state, or regardless of how much I had in either account. Recently tried cashing some out of state checks and they wanted to play the "wait til they clear" game. Needless to say, I said: "give em back, i'll go elsewhere".

    most banks just put a hold on what you just deposited, but since its getting cashed, I can't see them holding it or putting the account on hold, thats just bad business. If I got an NSF charge because my account was on hold I would be going some where else to bank.
