is interviewing some of the Democrats around here about the upcoming slaughter all of sudden now they want to compromise ade reach across the asile. Shold have thought about that when they rammed the stimulus bill and health care bill down our throats

I heard our local radio station will no longer allow the selling of firearms over their Buy Sell& Trade Show on saterday morning. The democrats are moving rather fast. I sent a letter to the owner asking why the no selling of firearms on Prime Movers. I will let your know his answer if he even replys. This is a small radio station in a rural comunity. 0 -

Same thing happended at a station I worked atin Cheyenne in 1992-93. Ridiculous. Here in Sterling, our competitors run "Swap Shop". Last time I listened, they still took calls for guns. Funny, but when I wanted to sell a 597 quickly, I called our competitors and put it on "Swap Shop". Worked like a charm.
Gotta hate it when big city sensibilities worm their way into the heartland.0 -
I just had a thought.
Maybe the station has been sold.
I know a couple of instances where dot-com nouveau riche buy small market radio stations and retire to the sticks. Or stay in the city and run small stations into the ground with out-of-touch, absentee landlord tactics like the one you describe.

I haven't heard that it was sold, but my guess is some anti-gun bussines that runs adds on the station told the owner to cut the gun sales or they would pull their adds. Money talks and replaces the Constitution.

X-ring. In my not insubstantial experience with small-market radio, I've learned one thing. You don't program to the listeners. You program to the advertisers. That realization has caused me to chew a lot of Maalox since 1976.0 -

one of the AM sports radio stations here in Houston (the 4th largest city in the US) still allows guns to be offered from listeners on their Sunday morning outdoors show. That show is a hoot...

Thanks for your inquiry. You heard correctly. We are no longer allowing guns or weapons to be advertised on Prime Mover. We were one of very few stations left that allowed any gun or weapon advertising on the air, especially on a free program like Prime Mover. After considerable thought, we just do not believe Prime Mover is the place for such transactions. The risk for us as a business if something ever did happen as the result of a gun transaction linked to Prime Mover, is far greater than the benefit. We have no control over the validity, motivation and reputation of the callers. It is a risk I am not comfortable with for the future of the station and its employees. Further, if there has been a concern with the program from listeners, it has been the difficulty of getting through to be on the air and the advertising of firearms and weapons.
This is not an easy issue. I am sure many reputable people have benefited from being allowed to sell an extra rifle on the air, but there have also been guns and weapons advertised that had nothing to do with hunting. While there will be people disadvantaged by this move, I trust the greater audience will continue to be well served by the change and the program.

The same thing happened here privately the station people say they were pressured with not getting their license renewed if they continued letting firearms sales go on. This is the story we were told.0 -
We have always offered financing through one of our local finance companies and sometimes two. When CITI-FINANCIAL bought one of the companies we got a letter from them stating they could no longer carry our account. Sorry. No explanation.
I called the number on the letter and asked them why. They asked a few questions about the business and when I said that we sell firearms the girl immediately stated that is why they cannot do business with us.
Cinched it for me. We do absolutely no business with CITI-FINANCIAL and we tell our customers about it.0 -
Our Radio TRader has so many rules that the guy spends a third of the time telling people hey can't sell that on his show. Annally absurd.

Man, I have to check with our broadcast lawyer on this one. I've personally never blamed our private policies on the FCC. It sounds like they're trying to dodge the bullet on this one. Weak pun intended.0
