I can't get the dang UPS site to get me a proper quote to ship a small amount of ammo.
Anybody know how much, say a 50 round box of 22 shells costs to send?

I would think around $2-$3 max. However, it is ammunition and you can take the world over with it by itself so there might be a surcharge for that. 0 -

I'm sure that $3 is fine for that much weight and volume but I didn't know if they're going to stick it to me for being HAZ/MAT.0 -

Yes, you can ship ammo by UPS GROUND. Minimal weight- so check price for a one lb package. NO, not hazmat. Small arms ammo becomes hazmat when you exceed 62 lbs. Mark package ORM-D, and on shipping documents, contents is "cartridges, small arms". Do the on line thing, have them pick up for home or work. NO- the clerks will not know their own regs. Above is straight off their website. I ship collector's ammo from time to time. DO NOT MAIL. 0 -

How are they going to know it's ammo?
I ship everything Fedex. They never ask any questions. I shipped a gun back to the factory and they never knew what it was. It cost me $9 to ship a guitar to NJ. I would say it would be $3 tops. They won't ask you what it is. Just put a peice of tape across the rounds to keep them from rattling.0 -
I swear when I looked into it (less than a year ago) UPS policy was that it was haz-mat, and not only that, they wouldn't do it for an individual.

I ship ammo all the time, and it has to go UPS. The only way they will take it is if they pick it up from your house, you give it to a driver, or you fit it in a drop box, after paying for it and printing the label from online. You must create an account with them to do that. UPS stores refuse to take ammo boxes. Must have ORM-D sticker on the box. For that one box, it will have to go as 1 pound, which is usually $8-12 depending on where you are and where it is going. I have tested some things, and shipping is based on weight and location, not really size. Certain areas of the country cost a lot to send to, while others are always cheap, but there is no regular pattern to it. Ammo can't go by USPS, and shipping with UPS will never be $3, even for a box of 22 lr, so don't count on that. There is also a $2-4 extra charge if you have them come to you to pick it up, so that raises the price even more. Better to just get a small box and leave it in a drop box, and I mean a small box, because those holes are small. 0 -
ups will be at least 4.50 for 1 zone away for a 1 pound box, price goes up from. 0
