A real gun question re Schmidt Rubin K31

I recently bought one of the above and attached to the upper barrel band (bayonet lug) is a metal projection. It is in the position that a cleaning rod would be on most military rifles. What is this for?? Thanks, Tom

  Someone help me out here. I did not post this on the experts since I thought this would be a waste of their time. Nor did I want to get laughed at for asking such a stupid question. I'll give this the rest of the night and will post on experts tomorrow if no one can give me a good answer. Thanks, Tom

  It was placed there to make you buy two more. The Swiss equivalent of the stacking swivel.
