What range for .17hmr for yotes..?

Hey guys, what the max range for killing yotes with .17hmr..?

    I dont know,, I use a .223 hand loaded Hornady 52 grain V-Max, th yote cant get too far ifn I can see him.

    I have to say there are a lot of "It depends" on the range for coyotes. I must say the biggest is shot placment! The HMR is such a little bullet, environmental conditions are another big factor also. I have not shot many coyotes with my HMR but I think the longest one shot kill I have on was just a few feet over 200yds. I was using CCI's 17grain TNT and it wasn't a real quick kill but it tore up it's lungs so bad it didn't have a choice but to die. The rest I have killed with neck shots at over 150yds. I suggest a 20grainer if you go much more than 100yds, and with good shot placment you should have much problem with one shot kills. Hope I could help!

    I use a 243 or 223 quick kills but have you ever seen what a yote does to a calf belive me they dont worrie about the suffering part [V]

    chuck don't visit the coyote gods forum. 17cal whatever is all most of those guys use.

    Its one thing to shoot them and leave them with a big gun. i think they call it "redmisting" If I am trying to harvest the hide the smaller the hole the more it will be worth.

    Anyway

    Spryor Why are you using a 17HMR to kill coyote's?

    I don't care what bullet you use, you shouldn't shoot at them if they are more than 100yds away with a HMR.

    I tried to use a 500 Nitro Express on yotes, but the accuracy sucked at 200 yards. It isn't the caliber that is the problem, it is the shot placement. If the bullet hits the kill zone the animal is going to die. If you hit a yote in the butt with a 338 Win Mag it is going to suffer, hit it through the lungs with a 45 GR .223 at 3700 FPS and it will not feel a thing.

    Talk about shot placement: A fellow sent me a picture of a coyote which he took with his .17 HMR with a shot to the center of the critter's heart. He shot the coyote at about 70 to 80 yards distance while it was running fast and hard almost parallel to a ridgeline it was going to cross over.

    Oh, i'm a very firm believer in shot placement, but have no experience with the .17. I know for a fact that .22lr will drop Deer at 100yrds...22 mag even better.[:)][;)]

    Don't worry Chuck, he didn't live but as long as it took me to walk it. He was dead before I got to him. You would be surprised how long an animal lives even with a quote unquote Humane Kill. Besides, I don't really care if a Coyote dies humanely or not, but I would never intentionally do it. I think that is why I have never taken a shot over 200yds with my HMR. I mainly us a .308 Win.. Can't get to much more of a quick kill than that, unless you literally blow them apart.

    I wouldn't hunt coyote with a rimfire. I just can't make myself do it. They're a tough critter and in my personal opinion, 17HMR just ain't enmough gun.
