Texarado
After I did the Texans thread it got me to thinking about the state that I live in now which is Colorado. I remember the first time I went elk hunting here. We got up a couple of hours before the sun came up ,drank coffee and ate breakfast. We headed up the mountain around Rabbit Ears and got in our spots for the morning hunt. When I saw the sun coming up I couldn't believe my eyes. I have never seen a sunrise like that in my life. It seemed like you could see forever and the colors were amazing. I have been going up there for the last twenty some years and it is still one of the prettiest places I have seen. Being there when the sun comes up on opening morning is very special to me and my friends. The frosty mornings ,the different animals and the mountain scenery are truley something you have to see for yourself. I love Colorado just as much as I love Texas. Wish I could live in both places...ahhhh Texarado...maybe next thread I will tell about the mountain lion that followed me off the mountain one night....Bull[:0][8D]

Yup, being on a mountain, when the sun comes up, IS special.
I used to call it going "camping" instead of "hunting" because sometimes I didn't really care if I got an animal or not. Just being there, for a week or two, was rewarding enough for me. The animal was just a bonus.0 -
I spent some time on Long Island and you wouldn't believe the sunsets there, every night. 0 -
I hunted (elk of course) along the base of a cliff one day and on top of the cliff the next. Every place I stopped on the second day was on top of mountain lion tracks were you could see my tracks from the day before. The hunter had become the hunted...I've never felt more alive... 0 -
I hear them Long Island Elk are hard to hit! Somethin' about trippin' over all them washed up syringes!

Too late. My wife dropped the dime on you five years ago. I've been wanting to move there (From Colorado) ever since. I'm especially fond of that Three Rivers area north of the Tularosa Basin.
