It is The Car of Tomorrow. Designed to make all cars equal (good old political correctness, even in racing). They all will fit the same template, instead of separate templates for each "manufacturer." Less reliance on aerodynamics, no more wind-tunnel testing. More focus on mechanical adjustments. This year. The new car is the COT (Car Of Tomorrow). It is supposed to make it easier and cheaper for the teams to compete.

Stock car racing should be just that. Teams are given a (varying) budget - no more than 75k max - and told they have a race at track X in a week. They must install safety equipment - roll cage, fire system, fuel cell - and otherwise leave the car stock. 
Repeat with new car every 2 weeks, and really shake up the track. Real racing is something besides turning left - seems the yellow flag in nascar is sorta like the folding chair in "pro" wresling, its for the ratings. See the one post about dragon taming. Or Le Mans, the Monteray Historics, Lime Rock, etc. or any of the old city street races.0 -

Bristol is the first race followed by Martinsville and not sure after that. They are going run them in 16 races this year with Talladega, Bristol, Martinsville, Phoenix, New Hampshire, Richmond, Dover, and both road course tracks. The rumor is that they will run the new car in all races next year instead of the original 2009 date. 0 -

The Car of Tomorrow Sucks!
They should call it the car of yesterday. THese things remind me of the stock cars of the 80's. That's when Detroit sucked at making cars and the bodies sucked. Yes, there are some curves, but not many. Basically these new cars are bricks with 4 wheels.
Did you notice FOX never should how fast these cars are going? I should say FOX refused to show how slow these cars are going. Hammond once said something like "The speed is not important. It's the level of competition." Hey HAMMOND, PULL YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR REAREND!! SPEED IS KING! GET THOSE YUGO'S WITH DETROIT LOGOS OFF THE TRACK!!!!
Todays race was an embarassment! I got bored and went to the theater and saw 300. THAT WAS MORE ENTERTAINMENT THAN 500 AT BRISTOL!!
ONE MORE THING! Did you notice the Ford is the same body as the Toyota and the Chevys and the Dodges? Same body for all manufacturers. THAT'S CALL IROC YOU IDIOTS, NOT nascar!!! Shot! The IROC cars are better faster than these Cars-of-Yesterday.
