electricians please help (motion light)
I installed a motion sensor light today and the motion sensor part works fine ( I can hear it getting tripped when I walk in front of it). The lights will not come on. I tried different bulbs but they did not come on either. The fixture is getting power but no light...what could the problem be?

Check the wiring. Sounds like it is not wired correctly. Don0 -
besides the wiring, is it a dusk to dawn model? 0 -
Most of these untis have a test button which should override the sensor and turn on the light regardless. Does this work? There is usually a dail somewhere to adjust the sensitivity of the detector as well as the duration that the lamp remains illuminated once the detector is tripped. It is possible to have the time dealy adjusted incorrectly and to the point that the lamp simply does not illuminate. 0 -
Check that all the wiring for each bulb housing is correct. It may sound obvious, but that is where I'd start. Check for a good ground. Usually they're grounded inside the box. Be sure there isn't a heavy amount of paint inside where the ground attaches. For the most part the screw will create all your grounding connection needs, but just to be sure.... 0 -
hey there goldeneagle. Sounds like your wiring might be a little loose. Check your connections in the junction box. Also, the light won't work during the day unless you push the override button. 0 -
Sounds like your light doesn't work , take it back and get another one. [:D][:D][:D][:D] 0 -

Exactly. Until you get into the wide area detection zones, the replacement cost is going to be small enough that you don't need to worry about what is wrong. Just get another one and be done with it.0 -
It is a dusk/dawn model but I have it set on the "test" mode so it should come on regardless. Wires are tight, it is grounded, just no light. Taking it back tomorrow for another one to see if it works. 0
