My brother's dog fell off a cliff last night...

We were able to locate him today but there is no getting to him. He got too close to the edge and they heard him falling for about 10 seconds. Looks like he fell about 300'. His final resting place is up on the side of a mountain overlooking Lake Pend Oreille...his view cannot be beat. It's a shame...he was a damn good dog. Grand Champion Blood Line...Yellow Lab. We hiked 9-10 miles today trying to find him. They had put an orange shirt on him before the hike yesterday (hunting season) and this is the only reason we were able to see him...He was a long ways up there. My brother is tore up...thinks it's his fault.

    Please accept my condolences. I too am a dog lover. And it's no fault of your brother, or you. Your buddy went out doing exactly what he no doubt loved the most. Remember the good times and love you shared. Get yourself another pup. And love him.... Sad tale Eric..

    Ive got three yellow labs, I would be heartbroken if I lost one, there my family.
    I can only imagine how your brother feels. Only time will heal that kind of pain. sorry man.

    He bounced off quite a few rocks in the 10 second fall...they kept hearing him yelp when he hit...I'm sure he was probably dead by the time he got to his final resting spot.

    Man, talk about bringing up bad memories. Same thing happened to my dog just over two years ago at Starved Rock State Park in Illinois.

    Sorry to hear about your loss and send my condolences to your brother, I know how he feels. If only I would have had my buddy on a leash.

    I live in an area that has extensive cliffs for 10 miles and they are about 400 ft high. The area has had many people die from intentional and unintentional falls. Many times I see people walking their dogs with out a leash and the dogs always go right to the edge and sometimes very fast. I always wondered if a dog has a sense of heights and the dangers they pose. My gut feeling was that dogs did have that sense. I guess accidents happen though.

    sorry to hear about your dog but if it was me and i did not know 100 percenent and had a clear line of sight I would have made shore. I hate to see an animal suffer!Had a cat that fell out a window at 14 floores thought she was dead as i was bagging her I was wrong and had to ring the neck!tHEY LEY PRETTY STILL WHEN IN PAIN!

    There is absolutely no getting to him SG...you would need a helicopter or a trained climbing team with all the gear...We are talking about the rugged Rocky Mountains here...it would probably take a helicopter to recover a human body from that spot.

    oh wow, how old was he ??, reason i ask is unless he has a straight fall of 300' or he really is an old fella, he may just suprise ya...
    i had a terrier come home ,3 months late after a dig with a fox!!

    It's a pretty straight fall Mond...and he is clearly gone. This dog survived being hit by a train (barely) a couple years back. I think he was 4-5 years old.
