It's offical. Ethanol vs. Reg Gas
For the past couple months I have noticed a decrease in fuel milage on my '88 F-150. Then I learned that Quiktrip where I have bought nearly all of my gas for several years, changed to Ethanol about the same time my milage decreased. So I did a milage study comparing QT Ethanol to Phillips 66 Regular gas.
Results showed that I lost approx 30 miles per tankfull using ethanol. In my truck that equal approx 2 gallons or $5.to $6. per tank in lost milage. All at the SAME PRICE as regular gas.
No more QT gas for me!

I use ethanol gas in both my vehicles. I get the exact same mileage and pay less for it. I've burned ethenol since it was first put on the market (or at least as soon as I found it on the market) The only thing that ran better in my cars was back when we still had lead in the gasoline. 0 -

I'm not saying you aren't getting the same mileage, but that is very strange. Here is a quote on ethanol from the e85 web site:
Ethanol contains approx. 34% less energy per unit volume than gasoline, and therefore will result in a 34% reduction in miles per US gallon
I ran several tanks in my wife's dodge, and the mileage sucked so much that the price difference was more than offset by the lower mileage. I went back to dinosaur gas. [:D]0 -

That would be true if the thermal efficency of the engine was 100%. But since the thermal efficency of a gas engine is somewhere between 30 and 40% you will lose between 30 and 40% of the 34% energy potential difference.0 -
I believe ALL fuel has SOME ehtanol in it.I'm wondering if one of the local stations isn't passing off their "ethanol" fuel as regular.I've seen a noticable decrease in mileage when I fill up there plus they charge about 6 cents more per gallon for the regular meaning I'm getting screwed on both ends. 0 -

I use 10% ethanol for ten years now and get the exact same mileage as buying regular no ethanol.
I have checked it several times and it is always the same.0 -

I just realized I may need to clarify something. When I said I ran ethenol in both my vehicles I was refering to the 10% ethenol blend. Not pure ethenol (if there is such a thing) Maybe that is where the difference is comming in. I have checked my mileage several times and it always is the same regardless which kind I use. 0 -
That's the difference! All the gas you buy here has 10% ethanol in it. That doesn't make much difference. Try running the 85% ethanol and your car will get less mileage and have less pick-up. 0 -
Flexfuel vehicles are retarded for alcohol/ethanol use.
You see...gasoline compression engines are 8.5-10.0 to 1. Above that and they will melt down.
Alcohol...or E-85 engines need FAR more than that to run optimally.
These flexfuel vehicles run optimally for gasoline but in a retarded mode for alcohol.
NO GASOLINE COMPRESSION ENGINE WILL RUN WELL ON ALCOHOL.
If you can prove that wrong please get your vehicle to the US Drag Nationals and prove all those high compression alcohol boys wrong. Gasoline doesn't win in power production......ever .....ever .....ever...0 -

Seen quite a few alcohol burning antique pulling tractors all gassers. Old two cylinders run really hot. But those are high compression engines. I aslo notied my gas milage drop on 10% blend wont buy it anymore lose a mpg and only get it for 10 cents off aint worth it in my book. 0 -

I live in the home of Quiktrip. Tulsa Ok. The thing that chaps my butt is that they are charging the SAME PRICE for the ethanol blend as the other stations are for regular gas. Not only that, but change seems to been done prett quietly. I'm a truck driver and listen to the local news/tal radio stations all day. Never heard a word about it.0 -
Buy a diesel and pay MORE for fuel that is refined LESS. [:(!] At least it makes great torque and the motors last just about forever. [:D] 216,000 miles on mine, 22.4 MPG.[:0] 0
