It was a different age. In that age people whos believe were different were tortured and hanged (Salem witch hunts).
I think it is wrong to impress religion upon the people.
Even we, the christians can't agree on most things, many Protestants would claim that I, being a Russian Orthodox, am a heathen and my religion is wrong.
I think that the religion has no place in the laws or courts, other then being allowed to practice.
I do not accept Protestantism, Calivinist, Lutheran theories as correct, I do not think that Catholisism is correct. I am Russian Orthodox, I would resent if I was forced to swear on King James bible, since I do not accept it as true.
However, having said that, I ask that you believe in whatever you want, let me believe in whatever I want. Politics, governing are anthithesises to the God's will anyway. Show me the politician who hadn't stole or lied:-)0 -

You need to check dates before you post junk. The Salem witch hunts were L-O-N-G before any state wrote its constitution.
What is impressive is that even those men that were not Christians helped to write these documents. God is acknowledged as being a greater more perfect entity than we are.
No one has tried to impress religion upon anyone in this country. You are free to worship, or not, as you see fit in harmony with a tolerant society. Dr. Laura Schlesinger a Jew said she is "grateful" to the Christians in America. She is grateful that she can worship as she sees fit without feeling oppressed by the huge majority. That is the way all Americans should feel.
Our very laws are based on Christian ideals and morals. It is a fact of life and I like it that way.
If you are an atheist or agnostic the word "God" has no meaning to you. So it may be ignored in perfect safety as you go about your life.0
