.45 vs .40 noise

A question for someone who shoots both: Which is louder, the .45 or the .40?

    The sounds have different qualities. Are you looking for an answer expressed in db ??

    Beats me. They sound slightly different, but I'm not sure if one is actually louder than the other.

    Which make your ears ring less and lets you still here more after shooting. Or, which probably damages your hearing less. How do they compare to the .357 which to me is a very very loud crack.

    Much different than the .357 S&W Magnum. MUCH easier to tolerate.

    You will destroy your hearing even being close to .22s if you don't wear plugs and muffs.

    I know, because my most common reply to someone speaking to me is "Huh??"

    I agree with the Boom for .45 and the Crack for .40. I think of the two that the .45 is easier on the ears and the .40 is more piercing.

    The 40 cal is a high pressure round and generates much more of a loud noise in my opinion. That said, I don't have any db sound facts to back up my statement. I hope someone can post the actual numbers.

    It depends on how close you hold it to your ear when you pull the trigger.

    In either case the sound won't last long......
