Remington Rand 1911 question

I've got my G-pa's Remington Rand 1911 that he brought home from the war. What company was Remington Rand? Was it part of Remington as in Remington Firearms and if it was, who/what was Rand?

    They made typewriters.

    Thanks-after I wrote this I remembered I was using a computer and did a Google search. They made typewriters and then computers.

    The first 1911 I got through the NRA before the dreaded year 1968 was a Remington Rand. I think it cost about $14. [:)][:)] I had it accurized and it was a great shooter. Used it in alot of NRA Bullseye matches.

    Remington Rand made the most M1911A1's during WWII, they were based in Syracuse, NY.

    i have one as well it was my dads.after he passed i took it to my local gunsmith and wanted it reconditioned he told me no he wouldnt do it. he went thru it and replaced a couple parts but said it would have ruined it if he did anything else to it
