I won't repeat my reply on your previoud thread, just want to commend you for this post.
You've done a great service. [^][^]0 -
...The vid was produced by a "higher end" safe Co. that obviously doesn't care for the proliferation of "$1,000" safes.
...Anyone have a "corner" in the location your safe is located in, makes it hard to access w/tools.
...Have your safe bolted to the floor.
...Most burglaries are committed by people who AREN'T carrying 4' pry bars.
...Most burglaries are committed to steal "electronics" and anything they can grab quickly and easily.
..."Quick and Easy" are the PRIMARY factors most burglars are interested in, they are not there to spend time or exercise.
...I have looked at 1,000's of burglaries and a LOT of what is accepted as "fact", ain't so...easier to deter and stop, than this guy ever lets on...[;)]

You sure seem to be taking an aweful lot of interest in getting into things you don't have a key for, or ready access to...hmmmm. 0 -

well if you read my posts you will notice I am trying to keep others out of my stuff and warn you how easy it is to break into a cheap safe,by the way the safe they broke into was fairly stout, much better than box store junk.
I ran across an artical on bumping locks at yuotubbe and there was a list of other lock picking stuff, then I decided to search for how safe my gun safe was.0 -
#1 thing is to bolt the thing to the floor, as previously mentioned. If somebody really wants in to your fire resistant safe, they're going to show up with a portable oxy/acetelyne rig and cut the lock mechanism out. 0 -
I have had my safe for over 20 years and did not buy a high end one, I keep it in my shop connected to my garage, Now this you will find funny, my oxygen asceline torch was in the garage. My best security was my German Shepard, I lost him last fall. so my guns (if I had any) are unprotected.
Thanks a lot for the post.0 -
Kind of makes me wonder if that was one of the brands the announcer was pushing but didnt tell us. The logo was covered up with tape, but the markings sort of look like those ones he had in the backround behind him. 0 -

That safe was not even moderately stout. Look at the door flex. That was a $300-$400 safe that he was touting as a $1000 safe. I saw maybe 4 locking lugs without any on the bottom. A sams club $1000 safe would hold those guys out a long time, maybe forever.0 -
Thanks for the info[:D][:D][}:)] 0 -
Mine has many 1 1/2 inch bolts, side, top, bottom and will be a lot harder to pry open. Its a Fort Knox and was over $1600.
I don't have that much in it anymore since I am old and selling off my collection@[;)][;)]0 -
Any decent diamond blade will open any safe like a can of beans. Just takes a little patience and maybe a saw or two. 0 -

Yea, but this will take you time and make a lot of noise. Criminals don't want to draw attention to their little projects!
They will only make this type of effort if there is big money to be gained. Skilled pros usually don't mess with home safes unless its in a wealthy neighborhood! Lots of cash and jewlery to make it worthwhile. A 10K gun collection is chump change!
Tweakers are the ones that hit most homes. They are in fast and out fast and pick up what they can to sell at the local pawn shop.0 -
I have had to break into 2 safes both Liberty safes both under 1k. And let me tell you that both of which gave me a lot of troubles. If you have the time you can get in to anything but with out a lot of noise and time the will keep theifs out. 0 -
I have 3 Stack-On Elite gunsafes that were less than $500 each and they looked a lot heavier duty than the safe that was pryed apart.
Not saying that these safes are any great work of art, but they seem pretty rugged and bought more for fire protection than theft.0 -
Just what we needed. A how to video to show how to break into a safe.
That paticular method would never have occured to me.0 -

good luck with that one
i have always liked the old saying "locks keep honest people honest", i don't care what you have if someone want into it they will get into it, many banks have been robbed with safe doors 4 feet thick and 12 inch locking bolts with no damage to the safe by forcing a person to open it, most thieves are kids the processionals are usually in jail, mine are bolted to the ground, and the wall inside a closet that has an alarm on the door and motion sensor inside, but the best security feature you can have is to not let thieves know it exist, most thefts in homes are done by someone who has been invited into your home
i have some distant in-laws that where on america's most wanted, he was a bank manager, they broke into the house put his wife in the trunk of the car while he let them into the bank vault, they released her in the next state after a beating, and where caught they each received a life sentence0 -
He lifted the door with one hand. Must not have been made of steel. 0 -
ALSO........ how many of you have your safe sitting in a huge, well lit warehouse with 20 ft ceilings and 20 feet free space around it ?? Huh? HUh? I didn't think so. It would be pretty darn hard to wield an 8 ft wrecking bar in most homes or basements. As someone else noted , having a cheap safe bolted to the floor helps security quite a bit. 0 -
I recently purchased a North Korean nuke for a few bucks and booby trapped the safe with a glow in the dark notice posted on the door. 0 -
thanks for the info 0 -
Most safes are vulnerable to the simplest things; relockers and heavy duty crossbolts are like butter when the proper laws of physics are applied.
The method I've seen used (didn't see the u-tube; no DSL) is to knock the safe to the floor on it's face, smash a wedge into the back with a sledgehammer, then hack it open with an axe. Takes about 10 minutes.
Really loud, though.
I've wondered about an overpressure situation doing the same work, but much faster; like a hydraulic/immediate compression of a fluid inside.....probably open like a can of beans in a campfire.
Most safes incorporate relockers and multiple crossbolts to defend against nuts with torches and saws, but then a $1000 safe weighs around 600 pounds!0 -
I didn't see any Guard dogs in the picture while the burglars were tearing up the safe. Sure they might have killed the dogs first , but the thieves blood would have been everywhere for the investigators to run the DNA to see if they were in the system. 0 -
Three Brownings.
One not so nice big dog ... if he doesn't know you.
ADT alarm system.
20 years ... no problems yet.
