When does a thank you end?

I did some big favors for a neighbor and he sent me a gift as a thank you. Do I need to thank him for the thank you, then he thanks me for the thank you thank you, then..... sounds like something from the Seinfeld show. Seriously, do I owe him a thanks for the thanks??? Thanks!
