Well, it appears that what I was told isn't true about your self-defense handgun being destroyed even if you are found to be within the law in defending yourself in Austin, Texas.(unless the circumstances were questionable, and not clear-cut)
I just spoke to 2 Austin City Cops on the street, who said without a doubt(although it is within the Judge's discretion) the weapon would be returned to it's owner, if found to not have committed an unlawful act when deadly force was used.

I think I'll give my instructor a call and ask if I misheard some circumstances regarding what he'd said.
