Illegal drugs show on History Channel
History channel is running an excellent show called Hooked: Illegal Drugs and How they got that way. If some of you want to know how bad drugs were in the US in the late 1800s and the early 1900s, watch the show.

Yeah, I saw that. It was especially interesting to see how marijuana was made illegal. Basically, it was through a propaganda campaign that made all sorts of false claims about the effects of marijuana (like that it would make you go crazy) and racist rhetoric (marijuana makes black men want to rape our precious white women). And like alcohol, it was the Christian temperance movement that was leading the charge to ban marijuana.
It makes you wonder why the irrational and ineffective prohibition against marijuana persists to this day, given the fact that its criminalization was acheived through lies and propaganda of racist and religious origins, not anything to do with health or public safety.0 -

The anti-drug "war" is big business, it will never stop. Too many big budgets, too much asset forfeiture, too many specialized police units, etc. And, over the years, how it all got started has been long forgotten. So even though it originally got started via basically racist motives, it is here for good now. 0 -

Seriously, I don't want to get into it with ya, Cool. It just seemed to me to be an overly simplistic look at the subject. Even tetrahydracannabinol (marijuana) has usefulness in modern medicine. Let's just kiss and make up, mmmmkay? 0 -

That pesky 'ol Constitution stood in the way of drug prohibition for a long time, but when congress found out the Supremes would go along with their twisted interpretation of the Interstate Commerce Clause, they knew they could do anything they wanted to. No more pesky 'ol Constitution for drugs, or anything else for that matter.
Some drugs are good. Some drugs are bad if misused. Some drugs are bad. I am alive today because of drugs. Some folks would say that's a clear misuse of drugs.
I think full disclosure is a good idea. Having to disclose ingredients is what caused Coca-Cola to take Cocaine out of their soft drink. Made it less effective as a headache remedy, but didn't seem to hurt sales much.
I think people should be informed about what they are getting into, but anybody should be free to do any damage to themselves that they want to. I don't think you can have freedom if freedom is limited to what the lawmakers want us to do ("for our own good" or "for the children").0 -
