Studio update - tracked ram lost the first battle!
LOL ... well, the 'selection' will probably be over lunch Thursday and I'll let you know who submitted the 'best' one. The owners will make the selection - I will remain 'fly on the wall.' I will in no way influence anyone making the selection - this is their baby - not mine. I'm just happy to have a front row seat watching the birthing of this whole project. So far, it's been very, very cool!
Remember the big tracked ram that was doing the demolition on those vertical supports last week? There are ten of them. After banging away on the first support for 12 hours, the score was Vertical Support 1 - Tracked Ram 0 (with a broken 6" bolt - WHICH ended THAT contest! Only the very top of that one support was finally broken free. Word's gone out for a bigger monster tracked battering ram - the biggest they make, whatever that is. It wasn't the rebar, it's the hardness of the concrete used.
Pretty interesting. I'm going up for another photo session with the newest mechanical combatant- when it arrives - to do battle with the giant concrete Spongebob monoliths!! I'll pass along the photos if you like.
Again, unless that setback changes the scheduling of things, I suppose the selection day is still Thursday - so don't be shy in sending in anymore ideas for a name. If things have changed, I'll let you know.

LOL ... I'll make that suggestion ... maybe the first RPG Tag Obstacle Course/Combatland![:D]
... the operator's been doing that for 40 years and has never seen anything like it![:0]0 -
Strange...
My questions never got answered.
I'm shocked and surprised!

Sorry? I missed your questions?
What's your question?
Got to go - if it's of a personal nature send to myideas@myway.com
with Attn: Scott/questions in the subject field - otherwise I'll answer
them here, if I can.

Right.

Don't have time - ask your questions here then.
... you've got ten minutes. Otherwise I'll answer you when I get back tonight.

I'll be holding my breath.

OK ... I've gone through all 236 e-mails and I have none from Doug Wilson.
Dunno what that means - and there are no new arrivals with that name attached.
Send your questions to me - hold your breath - and I'll see what I can do.[:D]0 -
So what was the studio finally named? 0 -
Ah - just had that conversation with Doug Wilson and Sig and his
wife Deb, up in McMinnville the other day, over dinner.
Well, what we thought was going to be the easiest part of starting
a big motion picture studio has turned out to be the most difficult
- to date - of everything that they (the three owners) have had to
do.
First - some of the names submitted by the forum guys and gals were
good enough to get the owners excited! I figured that it'd end there!
Nope! ... not even close.
It seems that ALL of the really good ones are already taken - just about
all of them are already in use/copywriter & trademarked OR are owned
by speculators who would be willing to sell them for a huge amount of
money.
It's turned into a lawyer thing - exactly what we tried to avoid in the first
place! It seems that EVERYTHING needs to be SUPER CONTRACTUAL - or -
somewhere down the line you'll be likely to find yourself in constant
litigation ... complete with orders to stop and desist all over the place.
I could tell you more but that's pretty much the long and the short version.
At the moment we (they) are in negotiations with an owner of a name that
we (they) like. Nothing can go ahead on the name/advertising/websights/
linked spin off businesses, etc., until that is resolved.
The multi multimillion dollar retrofit is the easy part - all one does is fund,
build - fund, build, etc.
This has been an 'eye-opener' to me - the days of plopping over a stack of
hundred dollar bills and a handshake are something of the early part of the
LAST century. The phrase, "Our people (lawyers) will talk to your people
(lawyers)" I hear all the time.
Part of my job has been to sneak around on the net and find some really good
'head-huntable' professionals. I found one - up in WA and after a couple of
months of talking to him, my wife and I went up to Mt. Rainier to see/officially
hire him - "bring him onboard' as they say - a big contract was involved and
all that BS had to be followed to make 'it legal!'
Anyway, as of now, we are still the Motion Picture Studio Without a Name (yet).
As soon as they tell me - I'll tell you.
... it's as simple as that ... no mystery there, fer sure!
Everything else is going well - a production date has been moved ahead - for
about half of the physical studio - from Aug./Sept. to Dec./Jan. By then all the
retrofit should be done ... hopefully! That too is very complicated but usually
money makes short business of it and problems go away.

Welcome to Hollywood![8D][:D]
It's a lot of hurry up and wait with a good measure of chaos thrown in the middle of it.[;)]0 -
I kinda knew that but there are pretty neat perks, too.
My wife's granddad was one of the top prop men from
1920 to 1959, when he retired. His son, Ron, only lasted
three months at the studios - he was bored to tears. Unless
you drank, played cards and smoked (cigs) it was terribly
boring.
Ron went on to become the head of all LA's public works
(utilities) - his last job was the LAX rebuild. He was one of
my real life heros!
