Liquor-Ever tried these?
I bought some sample size for my gun room. Of these,I've tasted the Crown Royal and the Jose Cuervo, not now but years ago. Just wanted these around for looks and in case someone wanted some. I drink beer occasionally but have never been a liquor drinker and would like to hear some more "educated" opinions.
I don't remember anything bad about the Crown as the only time I had it,it was mixed with Coke.
The only thing I remember being mixed with the Cuervo was vomit. Your opinion may vary.
BTW,these came HIGHLY recommended from the knowledgeable gentleman behind the counter...
Thank you for any help,comments,suggestions,etc.

Crown Royal....great sipping whisky
Pass on the Scotch...prefer Irish myself
Brandy...OK
Tequila...the urine of Satan...no thanks0 -
Clan MacGregor is fairly good.
And I have been around the block, when it comes to scotch/whisky.
Just too bad it's a watered down and blended scotch... but those are usually good for enjoyment for those who haven't quite got the taste for whisky yet.
Also blended scotch will taste the same, bottle after bottle - no matter how many years apart you buy them.
If you buy Single malt, cask strength - the taste will vary a little bit.
That brandy is good for firestarter, so's the Jose-thing there...
Yuck.
Never tasted the Canadian there.. but have tried others from canada.. also.. yuck.
But that's just my opinion.. =o)0 -
As said Crown Royal..good sippin. The Gold Jose..yuk, i prefer the white (w/oj). 0 -
Ah scotch.
Blue label, Singleton's, buchanan's or go home.0 -
have tried the first three, never heard of the last one 0 -
I have tried crown but that is it 0 -
Tried the Jose Cuervo but not the rest.
Try to find some of this.
Just tell the guest's you are serving them Poison.0 -
Have to agree with HappyNanoq on the Clan MacGregor.
The Cuervo is.... not totally horrible. Patron is better, and the Silver isn't too expensive.
From the looks of the selection I'd guess the counter the gentleman was behind was in one a them 'hoods where liquor stores have barbed wire around 'em?0 -
putting coke in crown is a sin and you will burn in hell for committng it.
jose is garbage. patron or cabo are much better choices, unless you need to take rust off a bumper.
not a big whiskey drinker so no real opinion there
ditto on the brandy0 -
Get some Kentucky bourbon and throw that other stuff in the trash... 0 -
I have to stay away from the hard stuff...I have too much fun...errr...get into too much trouble when I drink the hard stuff. 0 -
Can't speak for that brandy and I detest scotch, but never mix anything with Crown except ice. Jose is good in T Sunrises and Margaretta's.
If you just want conversation pieces that may or may not be drank, get ahold of a bottle of Austin Nichol's Wild Turkey, Stolichnaya vodka, and a good bottle of French vino.0 -
it would be nice trying one of each!
I don't have a problem with Jose Cuervo, I don't like brandy, I do like scotch, and I never have tried Crown Royal.0 -
I can only speak for the Crown and Jose. I like the Crown on the rocks. Can't stand Jose. 0 -
I can't drink Cuervo. Has to be top shelf. Clan MacGregor is really not that bad straight, better if mixed. Crown is excellend, and I do enjoy Brandy.
I'll take Don Julio(Tequila), Jonnie Walker(Blended Scotch), or GlenLivet or GlenFiddich(Scotch).
You'll have to try a good bottle of Bourbon...Maker's Mark, Wild Turkey, 1792, etc.
Irish Whiskey(Bushmills, Jameson, etc) is also an excellent sipping whiskey, along with Hennessey Cogna.
Buchannan's is excellent, give Gentlemen's Jack a try as well.0 -
See my sig line.

Out of those you listed, the Crown is ok.
The Cuervo isn't real Tequila, it is some abortion that has addatives mixed in. You need to get a Tequila brand that says that it is 100% agave, then ensure you get a Reposado, or Anejo, that is the grade/length of time it's been with us. "Blanco" is for mixing, "Reposado" is good to mix or drink like a good whiskey, "Anejo" is like a fine whiskey and should be sipped straight or on the rocks.
Clan MacGregor is ok, for a blend. My Scotch preference lays with a good single malt, not a blend.
Can't speak to the brandy you listed.0 -
Have to agree with HappyNanoq on the Clan MacGregor.

Whiskey collecting is like gun collecting. (Without the FFL). I think your intent is to "have them around". On occasion, buy a pint, and store it in a cabinet (glass front?) and you will be surprised how quickly they will accumulate.
When guests come over, hopefully you will know what type of whiskey drinkers they are. And stock up on that. For the occasion.
If you want to have some general quality stuff for your guests, and at a reasonable price, well, here it is.
Canadian-Seagram's VO (cheaper than Crown Royal)
Rye-Seagram's 7 (it's blended) Straight rye-Old Overholt
Scotch-Dewar's
Brandy-Pedro Domecq
Rum-Bacardi Dark (I think it's called "Bacardi Gold" now)
Tennessee Whiskey-Jack Daniel's Black Label
Sour Mash-Old Grand Dad 80 proof
Tequila-you're on your own here. Don't know.
above list is meant to be a balance between quality/cost. Your guests will not be disappointed. You'll see. Joe0 -
If you are after something fine to drink, as mentioned a Single malt Scotch or pure agave tequila. Or as 204targetman said, just get a good bourbon whiskey, I always like it better than Canadian, especially 101 Wild Turkey. [:p] 0 -
If you want to be diversified add some mad dog and boones farm or some good ole ripple!personally, I prefer Jack Daniels! 0 -
Tried Boones Farm when I was 14, good stuff! LOL 0 -
MD 20/20
18% or 13% alc. by vol.
As majestic as the cascading waters of a drain pipe, MD 20/20 is bottled by the 20/20 wine company in Westfield, New York. This is a good place to start for the street wine rookie, but beware; this dog has a bite to back up its bark. MD Stands for Mogen David, and is affectionately called "Mad Dog 20/20". You'll find this beverage as often in a bum's nest as in the rock quarry where the high school kids sneak off to drink. This beverage is likely the most consumed by non-bums, but that doesn't stop any bums from drinking it! Our research indicates that MD 20/20 is the best of the bum wines at making you feel warm inside. Some test subjects report a slight numbing agent in MD 20/20, similar to the banana paste that the dentist puts in your mouth before injecting it with novocain. Anyone that can afford a dentist should steer clear of this disaster. Avaliable in various nauseating tropical flavors that coat your whole system like bathtub scum, but only the full "Red Grape Wine" flavor packs the 18% whallop.0 -
I don't like Crown, Cuervo is crap they don't even drink that in the border towns of Mexico (but they serve it to us stupid Americans), PM VS is just OK, VSOP is better. and as for Scotch, I like both blended and single malts, blended is more for when you are out with friends or at a party where it is noisy or whatever, SM is for sipping neat at home with a good cigar. Ugh. I can't stand tequila. The rest is cool, I'll drink it if you served it up. 0 -
If you have tried Quervo and don't like tequilla, it is because you have not tried tequilla. Quervo and much of the big name export stuff is not actually made from agave, or has only a little actual tequilla mixed in. If you want to try the real thing, look for 100% agave (Patron is good), and expect to pay. 0 -
