If I hadn't been there to see it.....
"The Old Guy" at the range brings out his 1871/84 Mauser to try some new loads. First load brings 4+" at 100 yards. Not too bad for an antique. Next load has .2 more grains of 2400 and he shoots a 1 1/4 " group with three in one hole ! He then repeats it. I'm going to start bringing my camera to the range from now on ! I believe he was using 325 gr. bullets and was getting around 1100 fps. IIRC. Neat old rifle !

the .45-70 has survived for one and a third centuries and as an owner of five
of them I will vouch for their accuracy, too. They never fail to amaze me when
they are zeroed in accurately. Age had nothing to do with accuracy, when you
are using a fine firearm.0 -

You took the words right out of my mouth. Mine has impressed many non-believers lately.

I still tote an 1861 Springfield out to the range from time to time, and let people that want to fire it. It will still place headshots all day long at 100 yards.

Yeah - used to shoot a b/p 1863 Springfield when I was a kid -
I still recall being impressed with the big ole ounce of lead
splashing off of rocks shot at down in the desert. [:D]0
