Trip to Costa Rica, hints needed

Any hints on what not to miss in Costa Rica including recommended airlines travel from Washington, Dulles or Richmond, Va?

  When you get there note all the spikes, bars, razor wire, cages, etc on the building. Kinda makes you wonder about the crime rate.
  The driving will scare you but it is not too hard to get used to when you are doing the driving. I was there during the rainy season and missed a lot. See the volcano if you can. Note that the prices are very high. the prices are as high as here on most things and even higher on American items.

  Some of the best places to see in Costa Rica are in the north - upcountry around Lake Arenal - at the south end of the lake is an active volcano - especially beautiful at night - with low cloud cover the bottom of the clouds light up. It's in the National Park - Arenal Volcano National Park. My friend is buying lake shore property across from the volcano for a resort hotel he plans to build. I've suggested calling it Pompeii Beach ... he still doesn't think it's "appropriate" - I beg to differ!
  
  Anyway, if you get tired of the humidity along the coast(s) go upcountry - fishing's spectacular, too!
