... and today we transported food to the stadium for the refugees. In the last
24 hours I've met so many heros I can't list them all - or relate all their stories.

I am just hoping Mt. Baldy doesn't catch on fire next. Arrowhead lake is the current big fire here. Air is not very good right now.0 -
I don't want to fix blame or point fingers at such a difficult time for so many, but soetimes it shocks me how so many new rural homes in North America are simply not defensible from wildfire. Are people relying too much on local fire services to safe their butts?

I've seen things in the last two days that would make rocks weep. There are thousands of stories that should be told about selfless brave heroes, those in agony of loss, small children wide eyed and terrified, screaming horses and burned animals, unseen in the dark, men and women awake for the past 48 hours with little to no rest, Gale and I took a couple of shopping carts of bottled water, peanut butter, jelly, cookies, (home-made) brownies, blankets to the stadium and were absolutely floored to see pickups in the almost endless line of cars/trucks packed full up over the cabs with supplies for the evacuees. Many businesses had trucks in that line filled with tents, cots, food, blankets - just about every item that you could imagine By five o'clock this afternoon the evacuee centers had more food than they needed. 20,000 folks in need at the stadium - no cops needed, volunteers enough everywhere they were needed. This experience was one that I will never forget. Arnold was here and there, as well - decided to stay the night here in San Diego and will be highly visible tomorrow - he was everywhere today! One thousand fire engines from all over the west have been streaming into the city all day with lights and sirens - manned by an estimated four thousand fire-fighters. The Feds are flying in eight C-130's (air tankers) into Pt. Magoo to assist in the fires. American flags are prominent everywhere.
Like I said before, it makes one proud to be an American. It's a good contrast to some comments I've seen.0 -
Keep safe man! I was fortunate enough to be able to travel to that area of the state a few years ago(with one of my good buddies) to visit and stay with his aunt and uncle. I will have to give him a call and find out if they still live there and make sure they are ok.

Nothing except prayers. San Diego's taking good care of it's own - Feds are here -
fire engines are still pouring in lights and sirens going. I can't tell you the number
of stories of cops making entry into burning houses and grabbing what they could
to save for evacuated families - pushing cars out of the garages, freeing animals,
etc. We've got a great bunch of LEOS, countywide!
Still haven't heard from our 22 year old EMT son. He's been out in it for the past
three days.Over 300,000 have fled from the fire as of last night.
We have four families that we haven't heard from yet. Some have stayed behind to
fight for their property, in light of mandatory evacuation orders.May the Good Lord
protect and save them. Th fire often moves at 40 Mph. - much too fast to outrun.
The next six hours will be critical.

I've asked that same question 10,00 times PLUS in the last 51 years here - BUT - this is definitely different. People who build on beaches, river bottoms, on the edges of vertical cliffs in earthquake country, etc., etc. eventually 'get for what they ask for.' THIS is totally different (in most cases) - the difference being that the hundred or thousand year fire that are driven by unprecedented winds strongest on record ... and that's since 1811 when record keeping was begun ... that have travelled many many miles and are seeking the homes of very responsible folks who have purposely lived in 'responsible places' safe from wildfires.
I'd compare it to the folks living on the New Madras Fault in the central United States. We already know that historically there have been many record setting quakes there - the last in 1816 (I believe) that will kill millions on it's next visit - and there will be another, according to the archaeological history. Following that logic, I suppose some will rag on their fellow Americans in St. Louis and along the Mississippi River who are stupid enough to be living there. The same, I suppose can be said for those who live in hurricane, twister, blizzard, flood, drought country, etc.
For safety-sake I suppose one could live on an island - like Hawaii - BUT most of them are inactive/active volcanos!

Just saw a story of one of the reporters standing in front of his own totally destroyed home that he had lived in for about 25 years.
