    Actually, the moon does rotate because of the earth's gravity. That is why we have one face of the moon and the dark side of the moon. That and Pink Floyd[:D].

    Sorry folks rotation of a body is around its own axis...
    The moon does not rotate around the earth It may rotate around its own axis but it orbits or revolves around the earth...

    The question was "what rotates around the earth?". The moon does rotate around the earth. There must be an axis, or the moon would be a "disco ball" in the sky. The earth's rotation is controlled by the sun and it's effects on the iron core of the planet. To state that the moon does not rotate about the earth is to say the earth doe not ratate about the sun.[;)]

    The Earth rotates on its own axis and it Orbits or Revolves around the sun....There I said it, and I am right!!!

    The earth both orbits and rotates about the sun, google the word satellite. The moon does rotate, revolve, and orbit the earth just as the earth does the sun. A man made satellite would also fit the answer to the original question if it did "rotate". On it's own axis, by it's own polar design, etc. is not of bearin gto the question.[:)]

    Also, and I take my leave, all other planets rotate "around" the earth by proximity. They never revolve the earth, but rotate very near by.[:D]

    While revolution is often used as a synonym for rotation, in many fields, particularly astronomy and related fields, revolution, often referred to as orbital revolution for clarity, is used when one body moves around another while rotation is used to mean the movement around an axis. Moons revolve about their planet, planets revolve about their star (such as the Earth around the Sun); and stars slowly revolve about their galaxial center.

    I'll buy the "They never revolve the earth, but rotate very near by" thingy...Well except for Pluto which if I recall correctly does not rotate on its on axis but is a binary system with is so called moon!!

    the sun has to rotate around the earth, because how could the moon rotate around the earth and the sun at the same time?? therefore the stars must rotate around the earth too.
