The best bear stopper
I read a book for my carnivore ecology class titled bear attacks there causes and avoidance. It offered suggestions on what to use to repell a bear that is most likely going to kill you. he mentioned a pump or auto 12 gauge and some large bolt ation calibers but i would think the good old big bore lever gun would be a good choice also somthing like a 45-70 or a 444 marlin or 450 marlin.

The 2500 4x4 Chevrolet Suburban with the 454 option and a stout brush guard with at least 50 feet to get a good running start would be my choice. That would surely take down any old furry bear and would probably work against zombies as a added benefit. 0 -

When wildlife biologists are working with bears in a live trap, I use a short barreled 870 pump with 3" 00 in the chamber and 5 1oz. 3" slugs in the magazine. The biologists understand that the safety is off and my finger is on the trigger - so there's no margin for error in being stupid! [;)] 0 -

Based upon input from people I know that live in AK, the best grizzly defense is a 3-in mag 12 gauge with slugs in a pump or auto. They fish for salmon with one strapped over their shoulder. 0 -

It also mentions taking a guy who is slower than you are aswell. Book talks of either bears but has a greater warning for attacking black bears. 0 -

The best 'bear stopper' I've ever seen is a greased up old glass quart milk bottle.
The tricky part of 'stopping a bear' is to use the correct rubber hammer and developing the 'poke, hit and run' technique.
Black bear stoppers are easier to insert/tap/and escape as they are better tempered animals than Ursus Arctos! There are few (to none) Bear Stopper Technicians who have survived long enough to perfect the technique on that particular species.
There is little data on Ursus Maritimus Stopper Technicians ... for much the same reason! Apparently running across pack ice is a definite factor in the Stopper Technicians's ultimate escape strategy!
