California Pot & the Fires
News article this week says marijuana is by far California's most valuable crop, exceeding even wine production (The Economist, Oct 20 - 26, p44). Have there been any news articles on destruction of pot farms or houses?

Someone could retire early if they knew what they were doing.
I bet the most senior firefighters get to work in those fields.0 -
LOL!
They send DEA helicopters to Guam to search for pot with their thermal imaging...pot leaves retain more heat and give off a different signature...easy to see with thermal.
Yet there are people growing pot in California? Gotta protect the local growers I guess.
There was a neighbor boy here, just turned 18 not too long ago. He had a pot plantation on an abandonded military base here. DEA found it...busted him. But he was a minor. He's in Cali now.
Will FEMA cover his crop loss there? [:p]0 -
FEMA will only cover your crop loss if you were selling to the Feds. 0 -

I never tire of the astonishing/amusing fact that so many are so often ... so ignorant.
LOL
I read somewhere the Tooth Fairy is pondering the question of early retirement and
since I read it somewhere, I believe it!0 -
Wow HobbyGuy, if it were'nt for that patch you been gowing us along the Madison, we could be paying big bucks for our toke this winter. You did good dude! Peace Bro. 0 -
California's GNP is 7th in the world. I'm sure pot is at least 90% of that -
because I heard it somewhere.

No joke zip, I recall a raid in the Humbolt area about eight years ago that netted 28 Million dollars street value in high grade pot. They estimated it to be approximately 1/200th of the pot grown in California. [B)]
Yeah, but I remember lots of reports like: "The Sheriffs department estimates the street value of the 4 ounces conficated at $18 million."0 -
I saw a show on the History Channel about Appalachia. They had the DEA guys flying choppers in Kentucky, looking for marijuana. They said that pot was far and away the most valuable crop in Kentucky.
Isn't that the "bluegrass state?"0 -

Not to mention, that when they weigh the cache in, it includes root wads, dirt clumps and all.0 -
Could you use the dirt wads to make a hearty winter soup ??
Summer would be here, before you knew it !

Our Crop, I mean Illinois' crop, reached maturity about 5 weeks ago. SOme of it can still be salvaged.
With the decrease in supply, maybe I should go out and harvest it before it is too late.0 -
That's why I cited my reference source . 0 -

this happened just a couple of miles from the portola fires
im sure it was not the only farm.0 -
They pay tobacco farmers not to grow tobacco, maybe we should pay marajuana farmers not to grow marajuana.
With all the smoke in the air I wonder if we now have to worry about getting high?0 -
A mature avacado tree produces about 300 avacados a season (sometimes with a smaller crop in off season) - groves of 20,000 avacado trees aren't uncommon here. Let's do some math. 300 x $1 ea. = $300 a tree x 20,000 trees (for one grove only) = $6,000,000 a grove and there thousands of groves, some bigger and some smaller ... Hmmmm. Want to talk oranges, lemons, grapefruit, etc. - California accounts for nearly a quarter of the US market for citrus fruits, according to figures from state agricultural authorities, making it the biggest producer of fruit in the nation.
What were your stats again for the amount of pot raised in California each year - and how much more was that dollar amount than our dollar (profit) agriculture amount?
Just curious.0 -
the weed has been picked a month ago, October is not the time to harvest it September was 0 -

Who's "they?" Are "they" experts? Are "they" Feds, state, or local experts?
Where are the stats?
Again, just curious.0 -
I think I read the same thing - but - as I recall, it was 1/173rd. LOL
As for who cares? ... I certainly don't give a flying frick!
... I just find humor in some things I read ... I find it interesting
how folks take things for granted when they read something and
accept it as fact.
Opinions are worth just about what one believes they are worth.
Here on GB ... I've never cased to marvel at the assortment of
entertaining opinions - and I certainly have contributed enough of
mine!
... I'll give it .02? ... about what my opinions are worth.
