The Duke and Selma Halak in a movie soon? AMOFA
Background: About a month ago I was referred to a fella in
Bangkok who has a rather specialised animation/post
production/dubbing studio there that is on the cutting
edge of 'animation modified optic flow algorithms' that will
soon be able to match closely/exactly our favorite actors
that are no longer alive. Imagine watching 'The Duke' or other
great actors/actresses in new movies or added to films that star
contemporary famous actors/actresses in new productions.
The best guess is that this will be pretty much perfected in
about ten years - give or take a year or two. Progress has
quadrupled in the past few years.
I asked to use a sample of the latest examples of AMOFA
techniques for a video presentation that I plan to give to
some interested perspective clients.
I thought you'd enjoy watching this - I did. It's what's in
store for us now and will be improved exponentially over the
next ten years - or sooner.

... and the real irony is I know this guy - we graduated from
the same high school, here in San Diego - Hilltop High, Class of
1963. We used to hunt jack and cotton tails for years until
graduation - then he joined a band and dropped out of sight until
I ran across him in 'The Kingdom of Thailand,' as he refers to it! Tom's lived there, married a local, and they opened their own studio about twenty years ago.
... it's a small world, after all!

One company has the bodies correct... another has the matting correct... another has the facial movements correct ... someone will bring them all together.
there is another company too... that can take everything Wayne said in every movie....
and then it can be manipulted into an entire new score - just type the wwords... and John will say it - then you can add inflection

That is some really cool technology!
I'm sure I'll be among those 'old-school purists' who will decry the results when they appear on the screen, but I can still appreciate the genius of the method.

Does this mean the cost of seeing a movie will go down because we will not have to pay the actor millions of dollars? Now we will just have to pay other people millions of dollars to reproduce an actor, and then pay for the rights for using the actors body. 0 -

That's a really good question ... but the answer is still in the realm of the unknown.
Here IS what's going to happen, though.
Right now, the cost of a 40" HD TV is closing in on $1000. That means more can - and is - being spent for the bells and whistles (surround sound, better speakers, etc.) so it's not inconceivable that an entire theater-type system, in the not too distant future, may run between $2K and $3K. 'Movie houses' as we know today are going to be going the way of the single screen theatre. it's MUCH more cost effective to download your movies and watch them in the comfort of your own home - much cheaper.
Until now, the weak link has been - and will be for a short while - continues to be the interception/pirating of first run movies. That is going to stop in the near future. Without going into too much detail, there will be a downloaded video stream - not encrypted, necessarily, but perhaps, too - that will integrated into the video stream that you download. If the stream is diverted/split an info stream immediately goes back to the studio distributor and directly to the FBI. I can't tell you how or by what method but an exact accounting is made of who and the exact location is reported. The FBI deals with it real time.
... this means that in the not too distant future the distribution and a lot of middle men is handled by computer(s) - automated - cheaper movies for you - kind of like DVD rentals today.
There you have it - gonna be a new world for us movie viewers and for the studios, alike.
