HERE are some Immigration Rules & Regs for ya!
The following requirements are for JUST A ONE YEAR RENEWAL OF A YEARLY VISA, in Thailand!
The Thai government 'don't take' to illegal immigration too well! LOL
'Tod' (I've changed his name) sent this to me after I told him about all the 'Amnesty Crap percolating in Congress nowadays! Todd's not been back to the U.S. for about 25 years, now.
He's been married to a Thai for 20 years and they own a business that our studio
is going to do business with. Purely by 'coincidental chance,' Tod and I went
to junior high school and high school together - haven't seen each other since
June 13th 1963 and we've been on the phone three or four times a week, since
we 'found each other,' again, in the uplink/downlink world of movies!

You would be surprised at the immigration laws and regulations just
to renew a yearly visa in Thailand even when you are married to a
Thai citizen.
1. Police background check.
2. $20,000+ US in a Thai government bank with proof of transfer from overseas via a bank certification ( no interest paid ).
3. THIRTY day consideration period each time you apply ( apply, get a 30 day stamp, return and hope they give you the next 11 months).
4. Your wife's certification documents showing she:
a. stills want's to be married to you
b. shows HER citizenship documents
5. SIX photos of you and your wife in your happy residence
6. A map giving specific directions to your happy residence
7. THREE current photos of you 6mmX2mm exactly
8. Other documents that you must provide you can not understand if you do not read Thai.
9. Report every 90 days to the local police department office and file a document providing address etc.
Now, if you want to work in country you need a work permit.
The requirements for this would take another long e-mail to list.
OH .... if your wife says, "I don't want to be married to this bum anymore" (she only has to say it) you have seven days to leave the country or ... straight to immigration jail and forcibly deported - never allowed to return.
Think a marginal+ mid-world third world+ country is easy to stay in?
A residence permit will cost you $5,000 US to apply for, you must speak Thai
and the interview process takes a year with few making the grade.
These people take immigration seriously. And by the way. You can not own land in Thailand.
The country is not for sale. You can own a condo IF the total foreign residence percentage is less than 49% in that particular building. You must transfer all funds for purchase from overseas and pay in full. No finance opportunity from Thai banks.
How about that Sergeant Carter! Sha Zam! A strong attempt to separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak.
