We actually do need immigrants, but there are legal procedures in place that can and should be followed. We really don't have to condone illegality, and we sure as hell don't have to give in to political extortion, and we don't have to accept people who bring little benefit to the show.

I'm not so sure it's gonna pass.

Harry Reid says he and a lot of other Democrats don't agree with it.

Maybe they just want to show their power since Bush is for it -
whatever, just as long as it doesn't pass!

Yeah, but the problem for several of them is not that they feel the concept is bad, they just don't think that it offers enough "opportunity" to the immigrants and places too many restrictions on family member drafting.

Quite a few of the groups who are against the bill simply feel that it is not liberal enough.

I am enjoying myself for the first time in years.

Perhaps this will inspire another 2-3 % to actually THINK about the corruption and sold out business and politicals leaders that the brain-dead insist upon w horeshipping and re-electing to office.

On second thought...nahhh...Rosie O'Donald and the races are on T.V....

Refusal to agree with expressed stupidity is not the same thing as concurrence with advocacy of the acceptance of suicidal procedures.

Sometime you need to recalculate that 3% garbage. There were a hell of a lot more than 3% who put it on the line when the question of the country was in the balance.

I'm not so sure about the needing of immigrants as there's lots of evidence that the argument that they take jobs Americans don't want isn't factual. Lets say it's true though and they are the only ones that'll pick fruit, vegetables, do roofing, work in meat packing, etc. THEIR KIDS WON'T. Illegals will all want their kids to have a better life and go to college. Then we'll "need" more immigrants.....
When do we look ahead, and I mean REALLY ahead, and end ALL immigration, illegal AND legal? When we hit 650 million in population? 750 million? 900 million? How much longer do we give the countries they come from to catch up with, copy the free world (not just the U.S. but Europe, Scandinavia)? When do we say "enough is enough"?
THIS is what we elect the elite for and they've procrastinated for decades and are now selling us out, actually future generations more than us.
But, as long as we have local and national policies of growth, expansion, developement instead of seeing the advantages of a healthy but static size, we'll continue to see erosion of our quality of life. It seems also that instead of being willing to drive 2-4 hours to a larger city for art, "culture", entertainment, people want to turn medium sized cities into the jungles they came from to take a job, i.e., turn their new city into what they left.
    I've seen it all over.

I wasn't referring to farm labor type of jobs when I stated that we needed immigrants, I was making a general reference to employable people on an overall basis. At the current time we do not have a high enough birth rate to replace the people who are dying and would in reality have a negative population growth if it were not for immigration. This is also true of several countries in Western Europe.

We are not even replacing the people who are retiring, and just a relative few years down the line we face a significant labor shortage in this country if we don't find replacement bodies somewhere. That might seem to be of little consequence right now, but you only have to look at the demographics of the Social Security program to begin to see part of the problem.

When Social Security began only about 50% of the people lived long enough to collect, the lived an average of about 4 more years, and there were about 7 people paying in for each one collecting. Today the numbers are about 85% living long enough to collect, living 14 more years, and only around 3 paying in for each retiree.

That last figure is supposed to drop to around 2 paying in for each person collecting when the baby boomers hit the system full bore. There just won't be enough paying in to support the thing as currently constructed. There will have to be adjustments in tax rates, cuts in payments, changes in eligibility, or an increase in the number of people working and paying in in order to make the thing work.

That being said, there is a serious need to control the type and quality of those who are allowed to move to the country so that we have some ability to meet the needs we are going to have. Needing continued immigration is not the same thing as needing to allow unrestricted illegal entry.

There you are! Correct! Bush does not want the 5K fine to be imposed on families!

The whole bill is a scam and I guess our only hope is that the House tosses it to the wolves.

Keep the cards and letters going to your Congressmen.
