HELP -- computer virus
I have a virus in my !@#$%^&Dell laptop again!!!!!!!
This is the third time on the Dell - nothing on the other 5 computers in the house.
Everything works normally until you go online. It then loads popunders (27 of them now) and locks up the computer and the only thing you can do is turn the computer off. It then works normally until you go online again.
Norton found the virus but cannot delete it. It gives a message: Delete failed with error: access is denied. NR(5)
Avast also detected it but also cannot delete it.
The info I have on it is:
File name c:\dfndrff_e15.exe
malware name Win32:vb-clw[trj]
file size 360kb
type of file application
When I did a search for that file, I got this information:
in folder c:
company de5
file version 1.0.0.253
date created 9/6/2006
size 360kb
original file name Project1.exe
internet name Project1
When I go to 'my computer', and go to C:, it is listed there, but also cannot delete it. Is that because it is an application???
Where do I need to go or what do I have to do to git rid of this file?????????
Am I going to have to format and reinstall XP again?
I tried uninstalling IE and also my ISP software then reinstalling them and that didn't change anything, probably because it is on C: drive.
All of you know that you no longer get a system disc with computers these days, so I do not have XP on disc!!!!
Can anyone give me knowledgeable information on removing this application from my hard drive?

You guys keep thinking that you know - or Google knows - what you/they are talking about and we Mac users will keep feeling sorry for you virus farmers.
Don't matter a twit to me ... I just offered some advice ... logical advice from my perspective.
I wouldn't own anything that continually is attacked by something as insidious as a virus/multiple viruses ... so I haven't and never will.
... for the same reason I don't shoot old rifles, with modern loads, that have weak chambers.

Here's my perspective:
Here are some additional facts that I wish to share with you.
I've been on the net since the mid-1980's. I don't recall the date but let's say 1984/1985.
At the time I was using an old Apple 2-C `128 switchbank' ... which was a tremendous improvement over the older Apple II which I got around 1978. The IIe, IIc, and IIGS followed in fairly rapid succession.
My first Mac was a new Mac(intosh) 128K in 1885. After that I owned a Macintosh II si, a
Mac Quadra 800, Mac Quadra 950, Power Mac 8100, Power Mac 9600, Power Mac G3 (two), iMac G4 (15"), PowerBook G4 Aluminum (17"), Power Macintosh G5 dual core (2), and finally, a MacBook Pro (17") Intel.
I know a little about Apples/Macs. Like most Mac folks, I've belonged to several local Mac groups - even helped to found Apple Corp in Southern California.
Since I started surfing the (early) net and it's grandson (today's net) I have daily received, and sent, probably 15 to 20 e-mails a day. I have run a daily humor hub where probably 20 - 30 regulars have sent me humor/interesting e-mails that I have read and forwarded on to others. There are a few here at GB who get daily humor and (fascinating) e-mails - even including a popular Mod at GB. I have 238 addresses in my address book, which all, (well, except a few) are active addresses - from 23 countries (at last count) - uh, make that 25. Like most serious Mac users I belong to http://forums.macnn.com that keeps me current on the latest Mac & PC news.
I have absolutely no peripheral problems, either. never had a problem with software OR hardware running perfectly on any of my Macs.
OK, so after owning more machines than I can remember (I've forgotten a few), sending/receiving literally countless e-mails daily, with very few exceptions (only when I travelled - although, I now take my PowerBook with me) over 25 years - I can easily count the number of viruses I have had!
I'm sure of that last statement ... because I haven't had a single one ... not one since I have been on the net, never, ever, not a one, nada, zip!
Now if that record doesn't impress you ... as I said before ... it doesn't really matter, one way or the other to me.
Chances of me ever owning a PC ... zero. I've heard nothing but whining and crying about viruses/add on peripherals being incompatible, PCs loading up and running slower, etc., etc.

i have owned mac otherwise i would not feel qualified to give an opinion, how about you?0 -
