Gainesville Texas - 5 missing - Hometown
I was born and rasied in Gainesville Texas, which had a flash flood lastnight, with dead & missing people..
Gainesville recieved over 10.5 inches of rain since yesterday.
Elm Creek runs throught the middle of town and is also feed by the Red River.
The Red River is a large uncontrolled river running into Lake Texhoma.
5 people are still missing.
Gainesville's landscape is in a double bowl.
Meaning the City of Gainesville is in a valley, with the second lower bowl of at least a 30 foot elevation drop, just 3 blocks south from the Town Square, Courthouse, Police etc.
One southside trailer park of around 50 mobile homes, that stood next to the river are all but gone. Wiped clean.
This is where the missing pepole are from.
All my kin are ok, But know almost everyone in that little town of around 30,000.
You know how that goes in small towns.
Everyone knows you and what you do every minute.
No names yet on the missing.
Sad, But hopeful, that the missing are found alive.

Good thoughts in y'alls direction from Gainesville, Florida. 0 -
...A lot of rain in a very short time, in some places it was raining at a rate of 1" every 15 minutes. I think I heard this set a state record for the number of rescues during one event; something like 500 high/fast water rescues.
...I believe there are 4-5 people still missing, so the death toll will surely rise.
...One of the saddest stories I heard was about a 4 year old little girl that was pulled from her mother's arm's and drown as they were trying to escape the flood; I can't even imagine...[V]

Those trailers are flood magnets as well as tornado magnets!?

to a river? We have the same problem here.
