I know there are a large group of people which seem to require a carry gun. Just wondering if anyone has needed it for self defense.

Had to pull it once, but never fired it. The would be carjacker got the idea that his baton did not stand up well to a Beretta with 15 rounds 9mm gold dots.
Aside from that I have had a few situations that almost got out of control and I thanked god I had a gun just incase things went over the edge. One was when my house got broken into and I had to go in by myself , not knowing if the perp was still there.0 -
Have come real close several times,mostly when I was a cop. My last year was in a narcotics unit doing high threat raids. That will really get the adrenaline pumping. As a CCW carrier, I have come close twice. The first time a guy in a 911 cut me off on a highway off ramp, then the traffic came to a sudden stand still. Well, for some reason he got out of his car with a tire iron and came back at me. I opened my drivers door, held it open with my left foot to form the wedge, and placed my left hand, holding my gun, in the wedge between the door and the truck. I yelled at him and he stopped right at the front edge of my truck hood. He just stared at me like he did not know what was happening, then got back in his car and drove off. Looked like he was on drugs. I called 911 and reported it. The second time family and I were at a park. I went to the bathroom and when I came out some punk tried to take my head off with a pipe trying to mug me. I ducked just in time, the pipe knocked chunks out of the brick wall. I pulled my gun and he and his 10 punk friends ran off. I called the cops and waited over 2 hours, they never showed up. In both cases if the perp had taken a step toward me, I would have dropped them. 0 -
Never had to pull it. Glad because next step would send round out of barrel. [8D] 0 -

Never had to fire a weapon at anyone, but I did have one occasion when I had to put my sights on a live person, 300 meters away across an international border. That was both exciting and scary. 0 -
Almost had to shoot a dog once. Never had to draw on a person. Never want to have to either. 0 -
EJB, actually, it seems you CAN trust a smaller caliber. You shot the man with a .25 ONCE, and that ended the encounter. 0 -

95 times out of 100 a would be attacker/burgler/carjacker will change his mind after looking down the barrel of a firearm.0 -

Drew down on on many suspects over the years, off duty, drew down on guy chasing me for miles and tried to pull me over. turned out he was a sheriff deputy. Never shot anyone, it's not over yet though.
Made a lot of enemie's over 34 years in law enforcement, and you got to be ever vigelent.0 -
nope, I don't require a carry gun, I'm not a police oficer, detective, narc, security guard or member of the armed forces. just an ordinary joe. I do have the option to have a CCW if I want to.
have I needed to carry a gun for for self defense? I've been in a few situations where I think a hostile was armed, but fortunately things didn't get out of hand. otherwise I might have needed one. since I didn't have one, yes I might have got shot.
I don't think I need to, since I'm not specifically aware of somebody waiting somewhere to do me some greivous bodily harm. if there was, I'd try to avoid them, duh.
but I am aware of a risk in not carrying a gun, due to unforseen circumstances that may happen someday. there is always a risk no matter where you go or what you do. crime happens.
I do have a few friends that got shot. one of them didn't live.
there are shootings, rapes, robberies, carjackings, home intrusions, etc. every day, especially in my part of town. it just hasn't happened to me yet.
I've heard numberous stories from ppl I know about confrontations where having a gun would have either gotten them out of trouble, kept them from getting hurt (haven't talked to any dead guys lately to hear their story) or nothing would have happened in the first place because they were armed.0 -

I have known many folks over the years that did not like guns, had no working knowledge of guns and prefered not to own them. Then something happened in their lives to change all that. A home invasion, a mugging, a crazy ex-boyfriend beating, a robbery attempt, etc. They then joined the ranks of the folks who believe in providing some measure of personal self defense.
I have personally had several times in my life where I was trapped in a place where I could not exit without a encounter, on the street with agressive drugies, in a campground alone and harassed but I never had to use my gun. In each case I had my hand on my gun, never had to pull it and I guess the confidence that I showed caused the individuals that were thinking about making me their mark to back off and choose someone else.
I will only pull that gun if I suspect that I am marked for death or serious injury and can make that truthfull statement to a Grand Jury of my peers.0 -

I was walking down to where I park my car after a late Mariners game. I had parked in an industrial area just south of the stadium. The street is not well-lit, but the parking is free. A couple of hundred feet in front of me was a person walking in the opposite direction on the other side of the street decided to cross over to my side. There didn't appear any reason for the change of sides, so I pulled my Kel-Tec from my jacket's inside breast pocket and put it into the outside waist pocket, and I made sure this person saw me do it.
For some reason, this guy decided that the other side of the street might just be a bit safer, so he crossed back over.
Funny how just the mere presence of a firearm can change things.0 -

Be careful, that is considered "brandishing a firearm" in some states. You could get arrested for that show of your gun.
Now being it was in the situation described, highly doubtful the guy was going to call the cops.0 -

Occasionally when I'm target practicing with my .45 I find complete strangers running out of my yard. I've often wondered why strangers show up just when I'm starting my target practice. Strange.... 0 -
Nope, I've never even had to show one. One time I wish I had one when I was outside my house and someone was showing one to me trying to intimidate me. I got more mad then anything because he showed me a piece of garbage. I would of liked to show him my Sig and said "That's not a gun this is a gun"" (crocadile dundee anyone?) [;)] 0
