What exactly would be the correct way to look down the barrel of a bolt action rifle to check for corrosion, pitting, rust etc? (im feeling real DUMB). Btw i was at a reenactment a couple of months ago when a supposedly "weapons expert" was doing a safty inspection. well he comes up to our corporal, who has a sharps carbine, and asks to have him put the ramrod down the barrel. Corporal looks at him and tells him there isnt a ramrod. The corporal opens the sharps and hands the gun to the inspector. The inspectors takes the gun and looks straight down the barrel. I almost fainted when i saw this!
