ok so yeah....my wife and I will be adopting a baby boy that has yet to be born. We are not sure what to name him. My wife just wants the name to sound good. I on the other hand want it to "sound good" but actually have a good meaning. We are doing this after two miscarriages.
Im really leaning on "Nathan" right now or "Matthew".
What do you guys think? Any suggestions?0 -
Does Elliot work for a girl's name? 0 -

I know four people named Elliot.....All four are male. 0 -
That's the name of the female doctor on the the TV series Scrubs! 0 -
Nope. sorry to break the news 0 -
My Grandpa's name was Chelsea. Somewhere along the way it became a girls name. 0 -
I say it works. Just because it could be a boy's name doesn't mean it has to be. I know three men named Kim. It doesn't matter. I think it would kinda kool to name a girl Elliot. 0 -
I went to school with a guy named Ashley. Personally I'd pass on Elliot for a girl. 0 -

I think she wants that for a middle name.0 -
Elli yes...Elliot, not really. How about a boy named Sue? 0 -
Well at least it is a honest name!!!! Far better Saashakwawhansiwon and that crap that everyone is monikerizing their babies with nowadays. If you want to give a kid a crappy name why not just name it Pharty Bartfarst or PTurdosaurus Rex or something!!! 0 -
The "off the top of my head" answer is no, it isn't appropriate for a girl.
Then, after reading other posts, I tend to agree with some of them, like it's better than some of those totally weird names that aren't really names... lashwanda moonbeam, for instance...
True, a lot of names that are generally used for one gender are still commonly enough used for the other.. Leslie, Kelly, etc.. so people are still willing to accept the name could belong to a boy or a girl. Elliot, however, is commonly thought of as strictly a boy's name.
I think as a loving parent that the main consideration might be how rough will it be on the kid growing up. Other kids teasing her. Teachers calling out the name and looking for a boy to respond. Admin types telling her that can't be her real name and asking what her "real" name is. I think you might be doing her a disservice by naming her that.

Greek in fact, means Gazelle. Same as the Hebrew Tabitha.
From the Bible, Acts ch. 4 or 5 if I remember correctly.0 -

Correction: Acts Chapter 9. Tabitha is not technically Hebrew, but rather Aramaic. Sorry bout that. [:)]0
